Last night at Parliament House in Canberra, the Empowering Skills Excellence event illuminated the future of vocational education and training.    WorldSkills Australia CEO Trevor Schwenke and Chair Kevin Harris articulated a compelling vision for advancing skills development. We also had the pleasure of several prominent members of Parliament attend our event, including the Hon Minister Brendan O’Connor MP, Minister for Skills and Training, who also spoke to the audience and the Hon Sussan Ley, Deputy Opposition Leader.   The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the official International Competition uniform the 47th WorldSkills Competition that will take place 10-15 September 2024. The designer of the Skillaroo uniform, Jacinta-Rai Ridgeway, captivated the audience with insights into her creative process. The framed polo shirt was presented to Hon Minister O'Connor MP, marking the official launch of the Team Australia uniform.   WorldSkills Champions Trust member and past WorldSkills Australia competitor, Rachel Crawford, shared her journey, expressing the transformative power of WorldSkills Australia. A panel discussion featuring Skillaroos Sari Conte, Gervase Voss, Sebastian Battisa, and industry expert Paul Polverino from Axalta provided firsthand perspectives and industry insights. The evening continued with our partners engaging with Ministers at the activation areas including AR Welding (Weld Australia), AR demonstration in auto refinishing (Axalta ANZ – Australia & New Zealand), creating floral pins (Canberra Institute of Technology ), Electrical Vehicle control board (Canberra Institute of Technology) and assembling copper piping from the plumbing area (Reece Group).   Networking buzzed throughout, fostering connections among partners and enthusiasts in the community. It was an evening that celebrated excellence, innovation, and the future of skilled professionals. #empoweringskillsexcellence

  • Our Drivus Lean Foundations Course is designed to assist managers of bodyshops in reducing waste to drive efficiency and profitability. The QLD Course on the 29th of May taught attendees how to identify common issues in their shops and how to manage them by reducing cycle and booth times and standardising their processes. It is important to focus on continuous improvement by introducing strategies such as implementing 5S, reducing 8 types of waste, value stream mapping and streamlining repair workflow. Attendees gave positive feedback and were eager to take what they learnt and implement discussed topics and solutions into their own business. • Last week, Axalta’s training manager Paul Polverino attended the WorldSkills Australia Global Skills Challenge in Melbourne as a newly appointed compatriot support expert of car painting to support Australian competitor Kynan Bonanno. With 19 countries and 30 diverse skills represented, this competition was a great pre-event to the International competition to be held in Lyon, France in September. The closing ceremony was a great way to finish the week with Paul and Kynan presented with their official Skilleroo badges, and they eagerly await the challenges ahead of them in France. #gsc24 #worldskills #carpainting #refinish #competition #axalta

  • Axalta are extremely grateful for the opportunity to promote collision repair trades to young women through the VERTO (Australia) EmpowerHER Try-A-Trade program! We have loved sparking conversation in schools around vehicle spray painting with the help of our paint mixing demo van and VR experience. A big thank you to Chris Durrant and her colleagues for their hard work and organisation of each visit, including the latest day at John Edmondson High

    Connecting Women in Trades

It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of the EmpowerHER Try-A-Trade program for the past 12 months in partnership with the Regional Industry Education Partnership Program (RIEP)! Working alongside such passionate employers to educate young women on what it is like to work in a trade and the opportunities that are available to them is so rewarding. It is such a joy to see the students engaging with the employers, discovering new career pathways and getting excited about their future! Thank you to the employers who participated in our most recent event at John Edmondson High. Nancy Lane, Paul Mizzi & Danielle from Axalta Industrial Coatings, Matt Buttigieg, Paul Clancy & Aimee from Komatsu Australia, Craig Pendleton and Laryssa from Stowe Australia, Liam TAFE NSW Working with Heights and ADF Careers. A big thank you to Rhonda Stone and Simone Wright; working with you both on this project has been a pleasure!
