The document discusses database design and the design process. It explains that database design involves determining the relationships between data elements, structuring them logically, and specifying attributes. The design process includes determining the database purpose, finding and organizing information, dividing it into tables, specifying columns and primary keys, and setting up relationships. It also recommends creating child tables to store multiple pieces of information rather than adding many fields to the core table. This improves the database structure and makes it more extensible.

A computer has several key characteristics: It is automatic, meaning it will perform tasks without human intervention once started. It is extremely fast, able to perform calculations in milliseconds. Computers are also very accurate in their calculations. Unlike humans, computers can work continuously without getting tired or losing concentration. Computers are also versatile, as their capabilities can be changed by loading new programs. They have enormous memory and storage capabilities to store and recall vast amounts of information. However, computers have no intelligence or feelings of their own - they must be programmed with logical step-by-step instructions to perform tasks.

This document provides an overview of basic Microsoft Word functions for creating documents, including how to open Word, set font size and style, double space text, check margins, add headers and footers, include lists and numbers, and use spell check. It explains how to access Word through the Start menu, set the most common font and formatting options, ensure one inch margins around the page, and add information like page numbers to headers and footers that appear on every page.

The Status Bar in the lower left of the screen will tell you what page you are on and how many words you have typed so far. 54
