Learn how to accelerate and
de-risk your cloud migration project
Despite the surge in enterprises migrating applications to the public cloud, more than half of all projects are delayed or over budget and an even greater number are more difficult than expected.1
Cloud Migrations don’t begin when you start moving applications into the cloud. They begin with your application landscape discovery and assessment. The second phase comprises the actual migration where applications are moved to the public cloud. Working with purpose-built enterprise-grade cloud migration platforms, especially those that partner to integrate both phases greatly simplifies and accelerates projects.
RISC Networks and Velostrata have teamed up to deliver this webinar where we’ll share real-world examples, tips, and tricks on crafting a seamless cloud migration from start to completion.
RISC Networks provides a software-as-a-service analytics platform that helps customers analyze their IT infrastructure and cloud environments. The platform offers modules for IT health checks, cloud assessments, workload migrations, and application dependency mapping. RISC Networks' analytics have helped over 5,000 customers and its partnerships with 70 solution providers have fueled the company's growth since it was founded in 2007.
Migrating your Existing Applications to the CloudNestweaver
Cloud migration is the process of moving the applications, data or business elements from on-premise location or organization computer to the cloud or migrating from one cloud environment to another. The transition of data between cloud environments is called cloud to cloud migration and transitioning to a different cloud provider is called cloud service migration. In some cases, the successful migration to service provider environment may require middleware or cloud integration tool to bridge the gap between the service provider and the customer.
Migrating Traditional Apps from On-Premises to the Hybrid CloudRackspace
Re-architecting legacy apps for the public cloud is very resource intensive. However, migrating apps to a hosted hybrid cloud that’s composed of bare-metal servers, VMware® virtualization, EMC® storage and public cloud offers cloud-bursting benefits, but with less risk and cost. Check out our presentation and learn the five-step path to hybrid cloud.
Imaginea's take on how an organization can seamlessly migrate to Cloud. Aligning your IT strategy accordingly and move to cloud step by step is explained here.
This document discusses various cloud migration strategies. It suggests starting with a partial approach by moving generic applications or non-critical infrastructure to the cloud as a first step. A full assessment of applications is needed to determine what can be retired, replaced with SaaS, refactored for PaaS, or initially rehosted on IaaS. It outlines a 5 step process for cloud migration including determining public vs private cloud, integration strategies, and transition architecture. The overall goal is to leverage the cloud platform to reduce costs and improve flexibility over time.

Demystifying Cloud Economics - How to Build an Investment Case for Scale Migr...Amazon Web Services
While Cloud is fast becoming the new normal for organisations of all sizes, many IT executives & budget owners struggle to articulate the business value of moving to the Cloud in terms that resonate with the Board and broader C suite. In this session, we will talk through the impact cloud computing is having on the overall IT cost base, not just the infrastructure layer. We will also cover what the typical non-cost benefits are, and how they can be measured and communicated. Finally we will provide a framework that can be used to calculate the transformation costs associated with moving to Cloud.
Speaker: Conor McNamara, Head of Cloud Economics and Enterprise Strategy, Asia Pacific, Amazon Web Services
Microsoft Cloudscape 2015 surveyed the CIOs of 100 Indian enterprises to gain insights into cloud adoption trends and challenges faced by them. This survey highlights that as most business experimenting with different approaches to the cloud, availability of cloud skills and training seems to be the top concerns for enterprises, edging out security and privacy related concerns.
More and more enterprise companies are migrating to the AWS Cloud and there are a number of reasons why. While every organization is going to have their own unique motivations, common drivers include exiting data centers, increasing business agility, improving workforce productivity, gaining transparency in operational costs and reducing risk.
The AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) is designed to help enterprises that are committed to a migration journey achieve a range of these business benefits by migrating existing workloads to Amazon Web Services. In this session, you will learn about proven migration patterns, methods and tools that AWS has delivered successfully to hundreds of enterprise customers globally that will help you accelerate migrations, reduce risk and quickly realize value.
In this presentation we will discuss the planning considerations as well as some applicable methodologies and tools involved in the development and execution of a large AWS migration strategy.
Migrating Enterprise Applications to AWS: Best Practices & Techniques (ENT303...Amazon Web Services
This session discusses strategies, tools, and techniques for migrating enterprise software systems to AWS. We consider applications like Oracle eBusiness Suite, SAP, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, and Siebel. These applications are complex by themselves; they are frequently customized; they have many touch points on other systems in the enterprise; and they often have large associated databases. Nevertheless, running enterprise applications in the cloud affords powerful benefits. We identify success factors and best practices.
This document summarizes the key factors to consider when evaluating on-premise versus cloud-based law practice management software. It discusses cost in terms of upfront, ongoing, and long-term expenses. Security is addressed, noting advantages of both on-premise control and cloud vendor expertise. Functionality such as implementation, customization, and mobile access is also compared. Connectivity depends on location and internet capabilities. Ethical obligations to protect client data apply regardless of the system chosen. The presentation aims to help firms decide which approach best fits their needs and capabilities.
Accelerate Cloud Migration to AWS Cloud with Cognizant Cloud StepsAmazon Web Services
The document discusses strategies for accelerating cloud migration. It recommends building a Cloud Center of Excellence to develop in-house skills in cloud technologies. This includes adopting an agile development approach. The document also recommends performing portfolio discovery and analysis to prioritize applications for migration. Key decisions involve determining the best migration patterns for applications based on refactoring, rehosting, replatforming etc. An iterative approach is suggested to continuously learn, improve and optimize the migration process through establishing a "migration factory".
Migrating large fleets of legacy applications to AWS cloud infrastructure requires careful planning, since each phase needs to balance risk tolerance against the speed of migration.
Through participation in many large-scale migration engagements with customers, AWS Professional Services has developed a set of successful best practices, tools, and techniques that help migration factories optimize speed of delivery and success rate. In this session, we cover the complete lifecycle of an application portfolio migration with special emphasis on how to organize and conduct the assessment and how to identify elements that can benefit from cloud architecture.
There are many questions on what are the best steps and ways to migrate to the cloud better. Enterprises need to have specific steps to follow when migrating to the cloud.
In this solution, we identify those specific steps and processes and how it can be adapted best.

The document discusses workload suitability assessment for cloud migration. It describes a customer journey from early adoption to enterprise cloud computing. It evaluates workloads across several domains including business, financial, technical and functional to determine suitability. Key factors include discovery effort, migration effort, workforce expertise, vendor lock-in and more. The assessment is done using a tool called Aura which collects inputs to provide recommendations.
This document discusses navigating cloud and multi-cloud transformations. It notes that cloud transformations often stall due to complexity from technical debt, lack of unified security/controls, dealing with multiple vendors, and talent shortages. It recommends taking a crawl-walk-run approach starting with leveraging an existing VMware cloud to reduce risk before running hybrid and multi-cloud operating models with common management across platforms.
Hybrid Cloud Transformation Fast Track.pptxzhunli4
This document discusses hybrid cloud and provides key considerations for a successful hybrid cloud deployment. It notes that hybrid cloud can span infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS). Automation across clouds, building cloud-like services on-premises, and allowing applications to easily deploy on either private or public clouds are identified as important factors. Planning application deployments carefully to consider where it is cheapest to run while balancing business agility is also emphasized.
The migration of legacy applications and databases to the cloud is always a challenging activity. However, with the right strategy and meticulous execution, workload migration can be made seamless.

19. Ensure migration pipeline is always full
• Schedule ahead with application owners on move dates and validations needed.
• Discover and build automation runbooks for each migration batch
• Identify more sensitive applications that may benefit from “Test before migrate”
Network topology and interconnect checks
• Ensure discovered ingress/egress ports open between apps and user network
• Subnet and network security group placements
• Reduce DNS record TTL to 5min, ahead of migration. Will ensure clients are not affected.
Resource Planning, Light Transformation and Tracking
• Decommission obsolete databases and applications
• Plan and implement a tagging strategy. Tags can be specified in the automation runbook.
• Use migration transformation features to remove or update VM tooling and update licenses
• Use assessment & discovery to rationalize and right size your migration, plan cloud quotas.

Efficient, “Right-sized” Migration
Industry: Media
Migration Scale: 11,000+ Servers
Key Takeaway:
“Turner decided it
didn’t need to be in the
datacenter business in
order to be successful”
-Don Browning VP of Cloud Architecture
Turner Broadcasting System
Business Objective
• In the process of transforming
their business to support
digital distribution and
consumption of content.
• Looking to focus on their core
business transformation
instead of maintaining their
on-premises infrastructure
Results & Impact
• Turner realized RISC Networks
was critical in creating an
actionable plan as they did
not know enough about their
existing infrastructure
• Discovered 10% of IT
infrastructure wasn’t being
used and shut down
• Accelerated plan to move
specific applications to AWS
