The Water Use Advisory Council (WUAC) is established under Part 328 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to study and make recommendations to the Quality of Life (QOL) agencies (EGLE, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) on Michigan's Water Use Program, which includes the following major elements:

The Council has a diverse membership appointed by each of the Governor, the Senate Majority Leader, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Director of EGLE. The appointees represent Tribal Nations and the following interests and industries: business and manufacturing, public utilities, angling, agriculture, well drilling, local units of government, agricultural and non-agricultural irrigation, wetlands conservation, municipal water supplies, conservation, riparian landownership, professional hydrogeologists, the aggregate industry, environmental organizations, and local watershed councils.
