The Real Drivers Behind Generative AI's Rise 👇 Two main reasons explain why Generative AI has reached its current heights: 𝟭. 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: The relentless efforts of startups over the past few years have been pivotal. To give you an idea, VC funding in AI has multiplied by 4x in the last year. This boom wouldn't be possible without players like Perplexity, Hugging Face, Mistral AI, Anthropic or OpenAI along with many smaller innovators bringing brilliant ideas to the table. 𝟮. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀: The groundbreaking work by researchers has led to huge innovations across various fields. Keeping up with the flood of new papers is a challenge, but looking back at advancements in fine-tuning, RAG, and prompt engineering over the past 18 months is truly amazing. It's kind of funny when I hear new appointed “AI” consultants discussing Generative AI. They've memorized a list of customer problems and the "magic formula" to solve them, often requiring a hefty investment. But when you put startups, researchers, and consultants together, it creates an interesting picture. And don’t get me wrong, but it’s kind of funny, isn’t it? 😅. But the sooner everyone focuses on their strengths and avoids making false promises about reaching the sky and the moon, the better off we'll all be. #GenerativeAI #Innovation #Startups #Research #memeai

Haha!, Indeed everything is a spectrum. - You see technical AI founders that have cool solutions but no real problem in sight. - Founders and "Experts" from business backgrounds with grandiose promises and market fit, but no way to take anything to production. - Former Accenture Consultants that used to Excel the shit out of banks and now sell prompting guides. - Mememakers asked for advice on tiktok and more surprisingly some of them that can actually provide it! - Panelists on a large event that mix up what a classifier and an LLM are. - Randos on a SF bar that are not known but have actually a few books on ML. And more and more and more. It is crazy that 10y ago we had to explain from nothing to clients what AI and NLP were. Today, often times we first have to start by erasing the preconceptions from the media & influencers. Then work towards value as always.

💯 agree. We need to stop making AI the destination. It's just a tool and useful for specific jobs. In all my experience, not once have I had a sponsor say, I don't care what you do, I want AI. The objective is always performance based. By doing X, will the business either: - Grow - Achieve greater optimisation In either case, make more money. AI for the sake of AI will never work.

I think the true is the total opposite. Big consultancy firms as Mckinsey are making the most of AI. Exploiting client fear and fantasms to facturate high billed missions. Thank to their unique clients proximity they are taking the most part of the value generated by researchers and startups.

Not all founders are VC-funded. The best may not be, if anything because they already amassed wealth due to previous successes and are very well self-funded. This is my case. I am founder, researcher, investor, and a lot more, all at once.

Hahaha This statement is funny when you know That Accenture generated more revenue in 2k24 with Gen AI in consultancy than Open Ai itself.

Thanks for sharing this. Picture is just hilarious :)
