GPT-4o-mini is here. Short overview of why and how it can change your AI project budgeting.

Say goodbye to expensive AI! Open AI Introduced GPT-4o mini, the affordable powerhouse changing the game. This text & vision model excels at reasoning, coding, and multimodal understanding – outperforming previous small models on benchmark tests. But the best part? It's priced at just $0.15 per million input tokens and $0.60 per million output tokens, making it a fraction of the cost of larger models like GPT-4o ($5/input, $15/output). I'm seeing this firsthand in one of the projects I'm running. I used to rely on GPT-4o for simple language translation tasks – but now with GPT-4o mini, I'm getting the same results at a significantly lower cost! This means more resources for other parts of the project. It took me just one minute to update the workflow. That's the power of Smart Automations. What are YOUR plans to leverage the power of GPT-4o mini? Share your thoughts below! 👇 #AI #OpenAI #GPT4oMini #TechInnovation #CostEffectiveness P.S. Head of AIOps @ IBM | I help you power your business with AI 🤖 ⬇️

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗛𝗨𝗚𝗘 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻-𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻-𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗥𝗔𝗚. 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: ⬇️ → Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) combines language models and information retrieval to generate relevant, up-to-date responses and is (currently) by far one of the most common patterns being used in GenAI today. → BUT, most RAG implementations today use vector similarity as the search technique, which can make it difficult to integrate information across multiple sources or understand complex concepts in large documents. → This often becomes a problem for companies with very comprehensive data sets, which have complex concepts and important relationships (e.g. medical diagnosis, legal research). → Here GraphRAG can help to generate knowledge graphs from a private dataset (e.g. a company’s internal documents or application data). This helps to create a structure to better represent facts, entities, and themes in the data. → The goal is to achieve hierarchical clustering to detect semantic communities and generate holistic summaries in the form of a knowledge graph. This enables it to reason more effectively than traditional RAG approaches, particularly for complex queries that require integrating information from multiple sources, all while significantly reducing token costs. → First results from Microsoft Research are impressive: "The results show that GraphRAG, when using community summaries at any level of the community hierarchy, outperforms naive RAG on comprehensiveness and diversity (~70–80% win rate)." → This approach can outperform baseline RAG by providing more accurate and comprehensive results (see also the screenshot attached for an example). Sounds criminally underrated (but I don't have any real experience yet). I think Microsoft's commitment to the open-source AI ecosystem is a great move. Alongside efforts from Meta and IBM, it solidifies the industry's belief in an open future for AI! Will we see more open-source initiatives in the GenAI space soon? Interesting comparison of models, and reveal of Claude 3.5 hype on dethroning GPT-4o. In reality, it was just trained one way better.

Chatbot arena rankings are out - Sonnet didn't quite unseat GPT-4o across most categories, but did score the highest on coding - a really nice achievement considering it isn't even the biggest of the Claude 3 model family. We are expecting Opus 3.5 in a few months' time and it would be very interesting to see how it does. Apart from Sonnet 3.5, it was interesting to see how other models did. It is notable how weaker Google models are at coding, which is a bit of a downside for use cases that might take advantage of the long context window (e.g. putting the whole codebase in). It is also a bit surprising how much lower down Opus is - it is the most expensive model by far and I hope they will pull of a miracle with Opus 3.5 to justify the price. Note that while the difference might look dramatic, this was done for the sake of comparison, the margins in reality are very tight at the top - a difference of a few percentage points at most. Have a look at the full rankings here: https://lnkd.in/eqYG4K43 and try out the chatbot arena - btw it now includes image upload and vision capability is where Sonnet 3.5 exceeds GPT-4o in my limited testing.

A 3.25B params quantized gemini running locally in coming Google Chrome with less than 100ms latency while using less than 2GB of ram. That's less ram usage than many of my current Chrome page already uses (my slack is using 4.8GB as I type this). No doubt LLMs will be integrated everywhere in our world, from browsers to TV, to appliances, to Raspberry-Pi, to increasingly simpler and simpler devices as the tech is perfected. And what I'm most excited about is that they're all going to run locally, on-device, fast, decentralized. h/t @mortenjust on X.com for sharing the impressive video
