Researchers have tested many technologies to remove or destroy #PFAS chemicals. Some of those technologies are commercially available, and others may find their way to market soon. In a recent article in the journal Remediation, Zhong (John) X. — who leads H&A’s Applied Research Program — and his coauthors walk through current technologies for treating and destroying PFAS in liquid. Suffolk Construction and H&A recently hosted a site tour of our Huntington Tower #construction project in Boston for high school students from the Dearborn STEM Academy. This field trip was part of the fourth annual monthly speaker series we developed to expose students from the Dearborn STEM Engineering Pathway to the built environment life cycle. For the speaker series, we collaborate with industry partners across the AEC spectrum, including a commercial developer (The HYM Investment Group, LLC), an architecture firm (DREAM Collaborative, LLC), a structural engineering firm (McNamara • Salvia, Structural Engineers), a civil engineering firm (Nitsch Engineering), and general contractors and trades (Suffolk Construction and Turner Construction Company). During the tour, H&A’s Jesse Siegel, P.E. explained how deep excavations are performed and how high-rise towers are supported on deep foundations bearing in bedrock. Following the tour, Allyson Wheelwright talked about #geotechnical and #environmentalengineering, including her career path, the history of filled land in Boston and local geology, and the role of the geotechnical and environmental engineer in construction.

Haley & Aldrich enjoyed speaking with our SAME business partners and meeting new friends at Camp Pendleton Day in Oceanside, CA. Thank you to the Society of American Military Engineers for welcoming our experts Anita Broughton, Richard Farson, P.E., Garry Horvitz, and Phil Gregory. It's an honor to help our military find solutions for their #pfas challenges in addition to providing a range of environmental, #geotechnical, and site remediation #construction services. We are proud of our classification as a small business under the site remediation services category.

In our ongoing effort to connect with students in local communities Katherine Merrill and Terri McEleney led a hands-on engineering activity at Boston Public Schools STEM Fair. Students had an opportunity to build a geodesic dome out of toothpicks and kneadable erasers to demonstrate the strength of triangles when constructing structures, buildings, and bridges. Younger students were also provided coloring pages, mazes, and safety gear to try. Our staff fostered collaboration and communication, and the students applied their critical thinking skills and creativity all while learning about career possibilities in #engineering, #architecture, and #construction.
