NEW DELHI: BJP leader Ramniwas Rawat on Monday misread a few words while swearing-in as cabinet minister in Madhya Pradesh due to which he had to take the oath twice.
Rawat misread "Rajya Ke Mantri" (cabinet minister) as "Rajya Mantri" (state minister). This caused confusion among journalists regarding whether he had been sworn in as a minister of state or a cabinet minister.
Clearing the air, chief minister Mohan Yadav later told reporters: "Ramniwas Rawat today took oath as cabinet minister."
Governor Mangubhai Patel re-administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rawat in Darbar Hall, with CM Yadav and other dignitaries present.
Rawat subsequently took oath as "Rajya Ke Mantri", according to an official.
This comes after CM Yadav expanded his cabinet nearly seven months after assuming office.
The six-term MLA from Vijaypur in Sheopur district, joined the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha poll campaign and is yet to resign from state assembly as Congress MLA.
CM Yadav, who took office on December 13 after last year's assembly elections, appointed 28 legislators to the state cabinet on December 25. Of these, 18 were sworn in as cabinet ministers, while 10 others, including six with independent charge, took the oath as ministers of state.
