MUMBAI: In yet another case of hit-and-run, a woman lost her life when a speeding BMW hit the bike she was riding with her husband early on Sunday morning.
The BMW car was reportedly being driven by Mihir Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena leader from Palghar, Rajesh Shah. When contacted, Rajesh Shah said he had learned about the hit-and-run case involving his son but added that he was still waiting to get details about what exactly happened.
The fishers couple were on their way to fetch fish when the accident occurred. The impact was so severe that the 45-year-old woman was thrown onto the car's bonnet. The driver, instead of stopping, continued driving for about 100 meters before fleeing the scene.
The injured woman was taken to Nair Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The accident happened around 5.30am, between Atria Mall in Worli and the beginning of the coastal road on the same stretch. According to sources, the BMW was being driven at a high speed when it collided with the couple's bike. The husband fell to one side with his bike, while his wife was thrown onto the bonnet.
According to sources, there were two people in the car. "We have detained the driver and are searching for another person," said a police officer. The car has also been seized, and the police will inform RTO officers to conduct an examination.

Legal proceedings were underway, and a medical test will be conducted to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
No one will be spared: CM Eknath Shinde
CM Eknath Shinde said that no one will be spared in the hit and run case in Worli. “All shall be treated equally before the law, whether he is an office bearer or worker of any party. We stand for equality before government and law. Therefore, we will not give any different justice to the incident that happened in Worli, but what will happen will be according to the law."

"The incident is very unfortunate. Appropriate measures will be taken by the government and the home department to prevent such incidents from happening again. Currently, the opposition has no work to do. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that anyone is supporting anyone in this incident."
"Even if that worker belongs to Shiv Sena, we want to give equal justice to all. The government of the state is the government of the common people. No matter how many accusations one makes, it does not make much sense."
Arrest the driver immediately: Shiv Sena (UBT) Aaditya Thackeray
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA from Worli, Aaditya Thackeray, who visited the police station said that he has been continuously talking about the driving style and discipline of motorists in Mumbai. Aaditya demanded that the driver of the car be arrested immediately.

“The accused driver is absconding. The podlike have recovered the CCTV footage. There must be stern action. I don’t want to and will not politicize this accident. However if any senior netas or ministers call the police, then it must only be to ask them to take stern action.
The presence of the law has decreased in the city which needs to increase. The driver must be arrested and punished with stringent sections. The father of the driver may be from any party or from the traitors faction but I don’t want to politicise this issue,” Aaditya said.
“Driving cars in the opposite direction, not following signals, riding triple seats... everything is increasing in Mumbai which was not there before! But now things like hit and run have started happening! Even if the person who caused the accident is arrested immediately, it is necessary not to allow such incidents to happen. For that, we have to go beyond politics and improve this situation! Mumbai's traffic discipline and safety will have to be brought back! Care must be taken that traffic rules will be followed, drivers will be disciplined and offenders will be severely punished,” Aaditya said in a post on X.
