Goa to receive heavy rainfall, on yellow alert till Monday
Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Panaji has issued an orange alert for Thursday and a yellow one for the subsequent four days.
An offshore trough at mean sea level running from south Gujarat to the Karnataka coast has triggered an increase in rainfall activity.
“Heavy rainfall (64.4mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5mm) is very likely at isolated places on Thursday and Friday,” the IMD bulletin stated.

Intermittently, short, intense spells of rain and strong surface winds gusting to 50km are also likely.
The intensity of rain is likely to decrease from Saturday for a few days, and heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places.
During the last 24 hours until Thursday morning, Valpoi rain gauge station recorded very heavy rainfall of 117.4mm while Sanguem received heavy rainfall of 82.3mm.
Among other centres, Quepem recorded 64mm, Ponda 61.8mm, Canacona 47mm, Sanquelim 41.4mm and other centres on a lesser scale.
On Thursday morning, the seasonal total touched 1,057.2 mm, while the normal value is 1,063.4 mm, which means there is neither a deficit nor a surplus as of July 4.
Squally weather with winds at 45km gusting to 65km is likely to prevail along and off the north Maharashtra coast on July 6 and 7. IMD has advised fishermen to avoid sailing out to sea.
A high-wave alert from Chapora to Malim, Panaji, and from Satrem at Vasco to Colomba in Canacona has been forecast from 5.30pm on Wednesday until 11.30 pm on Friday.
