Ireland’s commercial transport sector is currently viewed as one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. While electricity is a proven alternate fuel for private vehicles, electric solutions are currently not a viable option for HGVs. Bio-CNG can support fleet operators and other businesses to address this challenge as it can reduce carbon emissions by over 90% compared to traditional HGV fuels like diesel. Sentiment throughout June remained bullish, similar to market conditions observed in May. Gas prompt prices were influenced by a surge in cooling demand due to high temperatures in Eastern Europe, low wind generation and Norway curtailing production by 35mcm/day. Congratulations to Tesco Ireland and DHL for their significant investment in 50 new BioCNG trucks that will allow them to reduce their carbon footprint and enhance the environmental sustainability of their operations. We were delighted to work with Flogas Enterprise to build and deliver the new BioCNG refuelling station in North Co. Dublin where these 50 renewable gas trucks will refuel. With Ireland’s ambitious climate targets to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050, there will be a major shift in mindset required by businesses in the transport and logistics sector to embrace the decarbonisation challenge. On 11th June, Flogas officially announced the opening of the Republic of Ireland’s first dedicated Bio-CNG refuelling self-service station at FoodCentral, St. Margaret’s, North Co. Dublin. The station will support Irish businesses to decarbonise their commercial transport fleets with clean and sustainable Bio-CNG fuel. The station is operated by Certa Ireland (Certa is sister company to Flogas) and supported by Gas Networks Ireland’s Causeway project.
