About us

Tesco is one of the biggest private sector employers in Ireland employing over 13,000 colleagues across the country. Our core purpose is to serve our customers, communities and planet a little better every day - this is at the heart of everything we do. Supporting local suppliers is very much part of the business ethos of Tesco Ireland; we source from almost 500 Irish food and drink suppliers, in turn supporting almost 14,000 Irish farm families. All of the fresh beef, pork, lamb and eggs that Tesco Ireland sells are 100% Irish. In Ireland and internationally, we provide opportunities to get on, with diverse careers spanning retail stores, head office and our distribution centres. Everyone is welcome at Tesco - whoever you are, wherever you work, and whatever you do.

With school holidays in full swing, and school holiday hunger a worrying factor for many Irish families, we're turning our attention to helping Family Resource Centres which support families with much-needed household essentials, and preventing children from going hungry this summer. The Stronger Starts Summer Food Collection is running until September 8th in 115 Tesco stores nationwide. Customers, if they “have a little spare they can share”, are kindly asked to purchase one extra item of non-perishable food items and donate them to the Food Collection trolley in 115 stores nationwide until 8th September, to support families and neighbours in their local community. Here's an example of some products you can donate! #StrongerStarts

This week we’re marking a big moment in our sustainability journey with the arrival of 50 new state-of-the-art biomethane trucks into our transport fleet!   The trucks will immediately replace 50 diesel units, cutting down tailpipe carbon emissions by up to 90%. The biomethane fleet will be operated by Tesco’s transport partner DHL Supply Chain and the trucks will be used to transport produce to our 177 stores from our distribution centres in Dublin. Biomethane is a renewable energy source produced from organic waste, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The Power to More! https://lnkd.in/emzhXdim Launching today in a comprehensive media campaign, Power to More will show customers how their Clubcard helps even the most everyday purchases become currency of their own. Once customers have accumulated Clubcard points, they can convert them into vouchers which can be used for discounts on their grocery shopping or getting up to three times the voucher value with Clubcard Reward Partners. For example, €5 in vouchers turns into €5 off shopping in-store or online at Tesco.ie but multiplies to €15 when spent with Reward Partners such as Hotels.com, Irish Ferries, Stena Line, Royal Caribbean, Milano and Tesco Mobile. ‘The Power to More’ campaign dramatises our Tesco products as currency, meaning the things that you buy can in turn buy you and your family the things you want. Our TV ad customer uses his Tesco Clubcard to turn everything into currency: baked beans can buy your favourite biscuits, or with Tesco Clubcard Reward Partners, peas can pay for your dinner at Milano, cinema tickets, trips to Dublin Zoo, hotel stays and even cruises. Amanda Farrell, Head of Customer Strategy and Growth at Tesco Ireland, said: “Clubcard has equity as a value signifier and with this campaign we want to surface the breadth of value Clubcard offers to our customers from exclusive deals in-store and online with Clubcard Prices to even more value with Clubcard Reward Partners.” Tesco Clubcard is one of the longest running loyalty programmes in Ireland, having launched in October 1997. Check it out - and keep an eye out for this campaign across all the usual media!

Our Head of Sustainability Andrew McGregor joined a panel of experts at an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland Food Waste Charter Networking event amongst retailers, hospitality businesses and manufacturers to discuss food waste measurement and prevention.    We were the first (and remain the only) food retailer in Ireland to publish our food waste data and we have successfully achieved zero food waste to landfill since 2009. We are continuously working hard to drive down the amount of food we waste - which now accounts for less than 1% of the total food handled by our business. With our belief that no good food should go to waste when there are those in our communities who need it; we’ve more than doubled the amount of surplus we’re donating since 2016, through partnerships with FoodCloud and Olio • Share More, Waste Less our Colleague Shop and ensuring 7 days a week donation. #foodwaste #foodwastecharter

As a business with over 13,500 colleagues, we're committed to ensuring that those of us with caring responsibilities feel fully supported. That’s why we’ve partnered with Family Carers Ireland, a charity who support and promote the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of family carers. Caring for a loved one means colleagues may need to take time off, reduce their hours or change how they work. In partnership with FCI, through the Caring Employers Programme, we can better support colleagues with caring responsibilities and help them to balance having a career while working too. We have a range of flexible working options that can support colleagues to work part-time, change their banded hours, temporarily change their shift arrangements and more. It was a brilliant week for our fresh produce team winning 8 Golds at the Monde Awards! For the first time, we received two prestigious Grand Gold awards for our Tesco Finest Certified Irish Angus Rib Eye Steak and for our Tesco Finest Certified Irish Angus Rib Eye Joint with Black Pepper and Irish Atlantic Sea Salt. We also took home six gold awards for other Tesco Finest Certified Irish Angus steak products. Fresh Food Category Director at Tesco Ireland, John Brennan said, "We are especially delighted this year to have won two Grand Gold awards. The Grand Gold Quality Award that is sparingly bestowed by the Monde judges is only issued to those products that obtain an average result of between 90 and 100%, meaning an undisputable guarantee of quality to the consumer.”
