The Big Day is almost here! Everything you need to know is on dublinpride.ie but here are a few highlights: 🌈 The march and parade kick off on O’Connell Street at 12.00pm. It’s a massive parade and it moves out in sections, so make a note of your assembly point, assembly time and walking time if you’re marching with a group. 🌈 Pride Hub on Clarendon Street will be open on Friday June 28th from 10.30-5.30 for wristband collection and merch sales. There will also be an information and water point at the Spire on O’Connell Street during assembly for wristband collection, but bear in mind that it’s a huge parade and the information point may involve queueing. It will also be very noisy and that can be stressful, so try to stay kind. 🌈 Stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. Pride has a habit of having glorious weather even if the forecast is bad, so be prepared. If you feel like you or someone in your group is struggling with the heat, take a break and sit down. Your well being is the most important thing, and the celebrations run all day. 🌈 It’s quite a long march, so we recommend comfortable shoes. If you do wear heels, prepare to suffer. 🌈 Road closures will be in place throughout the day. Check transportforireland.ie for up to date information and plan your travel accordingly. 🌈 If you miss Pride Hub on Friday, the entire store will be moving to a pop up location in Merrion Square as part of our Pride Village festival, opening directly after the parade so you can still get your glam rainbow bits.

Happy International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). Every May 17th, the global LGBTQ+ community organises worldwide events that raise awareness of LGBTQ+ rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBTQ+ rights work worldwide, with events taking place in over 130 countries. The date was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the removal of homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1990. Here in Ireland, we’ve made great strides in social inclusion and legal protection for minorities and marginalised groups, but many still face discrimination, so it’s always important to challenge bigotry when you encounter it. As of 2024, homosexuality is still criminalised in 64 countries; at least 12 of these have a death penalty for homosexuality. There is still much to do, but we’ll get there together. #IDAHOBIT2024 #NooneLeftBehind #DublinPride

Since the 1960’s DEI Programmes have evolved and adapted to meet the changing needs of society. The first session of our Pride at Work conference on May 20th will look at some of the challenges DEI programmes face, review the effectiveness of some of the most popular training offerings, and consider what steps we can take to ensure our DEI programmes are keeping pace in a changing world. Dublin Pride announce Belong To - LGBTQ Youth Ireland as Grand Marshall for this year’s Parade. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Dublin Pride march. 50 years ago, on the 27th of June 1974, a handful of students came together for the first LGBTQ+ demonstration on the island of Ireland, the first Dublin Pride march. As we mark and celebrate half a century of Pride in the city, we are delighted to announce that we have chosen Belong To - LGBTQ+ Youth Ireland as Grand Marshall to lead out our march and parade on Saturday June 29th. Commenting on this, Moninne Griffith (she/her), CEO, Belong To – LGBTQ+ Youth Ireland said: “As the national LGBTQ+ youth organisation, Belong To is absolutely thrilled and honoured to join Dublin Pride as Grand Marshall as they celebrate 50 years of Dublin Pride. For over two decades, we have been there supporting LGBTQ+ young people when they need us providing information, guidance, and a place to come together, have fun and embrace who they are. This is what Pride is all about! This year, as we see increasing levels of hate directed at our community, we need a space to not only celebrate, but also unite, more than ever. We are overjoyed to lead this year’s Pride and can’t wait to embody this year’s theme and ‘Shine’ alongside hundreds of LGBTQ+ youth who will join Belong To at the parade in June. For many of these young people, this is their first time being out and proud and joining the wider community to celebrate their authentic selves. Pride means so much to the LGBTQ+ youth that we support, and we are grateful to Dublin Pride tomark their by 50th anniversary by selecting the next generation of change-makers as the Grand Marshall.” As we celebrate our golden jubilee, the theme of this year’s Dublin Pride festival is ‘Shine’ Shine means to give forth light, but it also means to cast light into dark places, or to restore the brilliance of things that have gotten dull. Pride celebrates the light we all hold, but it is brightest when it is shared. We invite you to shine, both in your own Pride, and to be a light for those who may be in the dark right now. Join us on Saturday June 29th and help light our march. Images attached: 1974 photo credits: Gareth Miller & Thomas A O’Shea.
