I was honoured to host Jessica Stern, U.S. Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons, at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre this week for a roundtable discussion with leaders from LGBTQ+ organisations across Ireland. I was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan to Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre this afternoon to discuss the pressing issues facing LGBTQ+ Dubliners on the eve of Pride including safety concerns, rising poverty, and the impact of the housing crisis on LGBTQ+ people. I shared our vision for the future redevelopment of Outhouse into a universally accessible world-class LGBTQ+ centre. Supporting Financial Wellbeing for the LGBTQ+ Community 🌈 Recent findings from our survey with Red C reveal that less than half of LGBTQ+ individuals feel confident about their financial situation over the next 12 months. Only 44% of LGBTQ+ respondents expressed financial confidence compared to 48% of heterosexual respondents. Additionally, 59% of the LGBTQ+ community feel prepared for unexpected day-to-day expenses, slightly lower than the 62% of heterosexual respondents. These insights highlight the financial challenges unique to the LGBTQ+ community, including a higher reliance on credit cards and personal loans to cover unexpected expenses. To address these issues, we are proud to partner with Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre to offer a series of Financial Wellbeing workshops. These workshops are part of our commitment to understanding and supporting the diverse needs of all our customers. Outhouse will provide training to our Financial Wellbeing team, covering LGBTQ+ essentials and the specific financial challenges faced by the community. Aine McCleary, Chief Customer Officer at Bank of Ireland, states, "Different demographics face different challenges when it comes to their financial wellbeing. While our research shows some positive signs, it is clear that financial confidence around certain topics is low in LGBTQ+ groups, an issue which needs to be addressed. The strategy aims to promote inclusion, protect rights, and improve the quality of life and wellbeing for all LGBTI+ people. As part of creating the next strategy, the Department wants to gather the views of our community, they want to hear what life is like first-hand. They want to know what is working well, what needs to change or improve if there are any gaps, and what should be prioritised in the strategy.
