🌍 The building sector is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, with the construction and operation of buildings accounting for almost 40 per cent of global CO2 emissions. This enormous burden emphasises the need to plan, construct and operate buildings more sustainably. A key area for reducing emissions is the heating of domestic hot water. Here, attention must be paid not only to energy efficiency, but also to water quality. Even clean water always contains microorganisms such as legionella, which multiply particularly at temperatures between 20 and 45 degrees Celsius. Inhaling legionella as an aerosol can lead to legionnaires' disease, a severe form of pneumonia. To prevent this, water is currently kept at a temperature of at least 55 degrees Celsius, but this is very energy and emissions-intensive. Innovative research projects are working on finding solutions to safely heat water even at lower temperatures. Saving Energy and Resources with Digital Construction 💡 The construction industry around the world is facing the challenge of reducing resource consumption and increasing energy efficiency. The solution? Digitalisation and the integration of sustainability criteria at an early stage to balance ecological, economic and social aspects. The golden formula for economical and environmentally friendly buildings 🌳  Our collaborations with renowned institutions show just how great the potential of digitalisation really is. The results range from the seamless integration of digital systems in building technology and operation to methods for simplifying complex digital models: In the project for our seminar centre, "Viega World", we worked together with the Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE and the Chair for Energy-Efficient Building at RWTH Aachen University to lay the foundations for how digital building models - as digital twins of the real building - can successfully map energy-relevant characteristics. The combination of BIM models, technical building equipment and building automation makes it possible to sustainably exploit energy efficiency potential over the entire life cycle of the training centre - a technology that can and should also be used in other buildings. This is how we ensure that resources are used as efficiently as possible. As one of the leading providers in the installation industry, we believe we have a responsibility here, as well as to reduce the construction industry's high emissions. Im Mittelpunkt der gemeinsamen Diskussion mit Béatrice Jungblut, Andreas Fiefhaus und Dieter Hellekes stand die Steigerung der Energieeffizienz bei der Trinkwarmwasserbereitung im Gebäude. Die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse: ➡️ Die aktuelle Erwärmung des Trinkwarmwassers über die erforderliche Nutzungstemperatur ist energieintensiv und stellt eine enorme Emissionsbelastung dar. ➡️ Für eine nachhaltige Reduzierung von Emissionen im Gebäudesektor ist Technologieoffenheit für Systeme entscheidend, die Trinkwarmwasser energieeffizient erwärmen und verteilen. ➡️ In Bestandsbauten liegt ein erhebliches Potenzial für die energieeffiziente Optimierung von Warmwasserinstallationen. Today, on #WorldRefugeeDay, we face a double challenge: in addition to global hotspots, ongoing #climate change is forcing millions of people to flee their homes. In mid-2023, climate-related disasters alone had forced some 36.7 million people to leave their homes. This is the highest number in a decade. Another alarming sign of the urgency of effective climate action. Reducing CO2 emissions is a crucial step towards limiting global warming and mitigating extreme weather such as floods, drought, and aridity. This is not only an environmental goal, but also a deeply humanitarian one - less CO2 means fewer people displaced from their homes. Let's use today as an opportunity to both work for peace in the many crisis areas around the world and to step up our efforts to protect the climate. Tackling the housing shortage: Through collaboration and enablement 🏘 Whether it's population growth, urbanisation or regulatory hurdles – housing shortages are a major issue in many countries. In Germany alone, there was a shortage of 700,000 apartments last year, according to a study by the Pestel Institut and the construction research institute ARGE. What can be done about it? Existing buildings need to be extended and renovated and new apartments built. However, the construction industry is not only struggling with rising costs, but also with a lack of time, resources, and skilled workers. This is precisely where digital construction comes in – for example with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) working method. This requires everyone involved to work together. Collaboration and enablement are therefore key 🤝🏽 As one of the world's leading installation companies, we are an important part of the construction industry – which is why we have always been involved in construction issues. We see it as our duty to tackle these challenges together with the industry as a whole – for example with the "80 Sekunden - Neues Bauen" network. This is where decision-makers and innovators from politics, science, the construction and real estate industries come together to fight the housing shortage. The Viega Foundation is one year old, and we are celebrating this birthday by supporting another organisation that works to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) 🎇 Since 15 June, the Viega Foundation has been a partner of PERIOD., a non-profit organisation founded by young people. PERIOD. aims to make a nationwide statement against period poverty in the USA. Period provides unbureaucratic help to people who do not have enough money to buy sanitary products. Not only by offering products free of charge, but also through nationwide educational work that sensitises people to the issue and raises awareness.  The Viega Foundation supports PERIOD.’s initiatives in Miami, Florida, as well as in the states of Kansas and Colorado, where Viega LLC is based.  With this commitment, PERIOD. and the Viega Foundation contribute to the promotion of gender equality and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6. Globally connected." was the motto of this year's Global Marketing Managers Meeting on June 11 and 12. 🤝 Together with colleagues from 11 countries, the Global Marketing team exchanged best practices and new initiatives, developed creative ideas in collaborative workshops and strengthened our global cooperation. 🚀.
