⚽ Football's Energy – At UEFA Euro 2024 we've joined hands in solidarity with seven German energy companies and Naftogaz of Ukraine to welcome Ukrainian veterans, as well as children of soldiers who lost their lives. The group travelled from Ukraine to attend their national team’s 3 Group Stage matches in Munich, Düsseldorf, and Stuttgart, cheer them on, and celebrate the unifying spirit of sport. Let’s take time to appreciate the joy and unity that football can bring, and Ukraine’s great efforts in Group E. 🔋💡What a week! Happurg is coming back and Wilhelmshaven is preparing for the future! With the revitalisation of the Happurg pumped storage plant, we are expanding our hydropower portfolio. This investment of about 250 million euros is more than just a financial commitment! We decided to make this investment in the firm belief that Germany must invest heavily in the expansion of flexible, dispatchable power generating capacities in order to implement the #EnergyTransition. As we lay the groundwork for this innovative project, we are also paving the way for future energy professionals. Our training center in Wilhelmshaven is at the forefront of educating mechatronics engineers, equipping them with cutting-edge skills in technologies essential for tomorrow’s energy needs, including hydrogen. The Happurg pumped-storage plant and the Wilhelmshaven training center exemplify our dedication to making the energy transition a reality. The development of our Energy Transformation Hubs and dozens of projects across Europe make me very optimistic about the future. #InterSolar, the melting pot of the industry, which after all the ups and downs is back big time, with global solar pv installations exceeding 2TW this year. However, what has been the basis of that immense success - low cost, favourable environmental footprint and the sheer speed of deploying new capacity - turned into the main challenge for solar nowadays: How can electricity grids cope with even more solar in the system? Will customers want more solar generation profile? Well, the solutions to these challenges are being pushed forward by the same industry with energy storage cost in constant decline and new flexible demand picking up. #Uniper with its broad range of growth businesses - from its large battery program and flexible power plants, to its strong customer base and multi commodity trading and optimization, as well as #H2 and green molecules production - is well positioned to play that solution space of integrating new renewables into the energy system. So, solar will continue its fast growth and together with wind and storage contributing to Uniper‘s Renewables target of 10 GW by 2030.

Why are three I's keys to hydrogen market ramp-up? Innovation, Infrastructure, and Incentives!!!   At the Handelsblatt Wasserstoff-Gipfel, I had the opportunity to share my perspectives on the key drivers for the hydrogen market ramp-up. Success hinges on three main factors: 1️⃣  Innovation: Pioneering new technologies and approaches. 2️⃣  Practical Infrastructure Development: Implementing hands-on solutions to build robust infrastructure. 3️⃣  Targeted Funding and Regulatory Support: Utilizing tailored funding measures and regulatory incentives.   Our initiatives across Germany exemplify these principles as we in Uniper take pioneering investment decisions to test and further prepare for larger scale hydrogen economy build-up: 👉Ammonia-Importterminal in Wilhelmshaven: Establishing import and production capacities for green hydrogen 👉HyStorage Bierwang & Hydrogen Pilot Cavern Krummhörn: Development of a viable, safe and large-scale solution for green hydrogen storage. 👉Energy Park Bad Lauchstädt: Integrating the entire green hydrogen value chain, with a capacity contract signed last year to supply the industrial sector with carbon-free energy.   Every link in the hydrogen infrastructure is crucial. Only through this comprehensive approach can we meet the projected hydrogen demand of 15-20% by 2030.
