I'm a 3+ years blender cycles user and are very loving it. Couple hours ago i tried octane for blender (which is free btw).

I tried rendering a smartphone model, with exactly the same mesh, textures , HDRI and lights,

and it gives different results. I use AGX Color management here for both.

here is the mesh with wireframe before i show you the results test

this is our beloved cycles enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here

and

this is Blender Octane enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here

after seeing the results, I'm starting to doubt my blender cycles 3+ years skills, or even cycles itself ! i know for a long time, blender's glass doesn't look that good compared to octane, but i didnt know it was this far. and my octane blender experience is less than 5 hours.

i don't know where i did wrong or right, but for this model , i just simply imported and assign the textures, nothing more.

why does it look very very different and why it takes so little effort to achieve a good look in octane rather in cycles ?

$\begingroup$ Are you expecting Octane and Cycles to produce the same result? What is your question? (I didnt find a question mark so im asking) $\endgroup$

$\begingroup$ I don't really see how it's a fair comparison. Materials look quite different. A fair comparison would be to reproduce the same look of material and then compare the slight differences. Plus, you aren't supposed to use .hdr with Non-Color colorspace. $\endgroup$

$\begingroup$ I’m voting to close this question because it doesn’t seem to be a question at all. More of just a social media post about how two engines are different. $\endgroup$
