Background Information:
Normally, you will unable to access the Westell modem interface if you use it in conjunction with another router. The reason is that the Westell modem interface address is 192.168.1.254 which is a local IP. By default, most routers do not have the capability to route a local IP out of their WAN port (where your Westell is connected). Additionally, they may be on completely different subnets.

Alternative Configurations:
There are several alternatives around this problem. Two common methods are shown below.
1. Extra Equipment Configuration
This method requires extra equipment (a second NIC and a hub) and major configuration changes. Click here for more information.

2. Utilize the router as a switch configuration
This method requires you to utilize the router as a simple switch and use the Westell's PPPoE and DHCP functions. Simply disable the DHCP and PPP client on the router and plug the ethernet cable from the Westell into one of the switch ports instead of the WAN/Upload port (as shown below).

Step 1
Open a browser session and enter "192.168.1.254" or "launchmodem" in the address field.

Step 2
This step is dependent on your specific Westell model number and firmware.

Westell 6100 Procedure: Enter your BellSouth Username followed by "@bellsouth.net" in the User ID field. Enter your BellSouth Password in the Password field. Re-enter your BellSouth Password in the Confirm Password field. Click on Next. Update the Auto Calender Update Configuration as desired and click Next. The modem will try to initiate a session and then return to the main menu.

Westell 2100 or 2200 Procedure: Click on Easy Login from the menu. Enter your BellSouth Username followed by "@bellsouth.net" in the User ID field. Enter your BellSouth Password in the Password field. Re-enter your BellSouth Password in the Confirm Password field. Click on Connect. The modem will try to initiate a session and then return to the main menu.

Step 4
You are finished. If you get an connection error message go back and make sure your username and password are correct and click Connect again.

Additional Information
You can configure your connection to be "Always On". Click here for details.
