This document proposes a novel standalone implementation of a multi-deep neural network (MDNN) controller for DC-DC converters that is resilient to sensor attacks. The MDNN controller combines a deep neural network (DNN) controller and an error detection network (EDN) to detect and mitigate false data injection attacks at the sensor level. The MDNN controller is tested in MATLAB simulations under various disturbances and attack scenarios, demonstrating its effectiveness in maintaining closed-loop control of the DC-DC converter while detecting and mitigating sensor attacks. This approach eliminates the need for traditional proportional-integral controllers and provides a model-free methodology to securely and robustly control the converter against sensor attacks and system variations.

The efficacy and challenges of scada and smart grid integration
To initiate a 2 way communication between the load center's and the substation so they can monitor the electricity distribution at real time • To detect faults at their onset so that a resultant blackouts can be prevented • To regulate the energy consumption of utilities based on energy availability
This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a design for a secure and sophisticated electricity meter called an Impregnable Device for Secured Metering (IDSM). The IDSM uses a microcontroller integrated with a smart meter to securely transmit power consumption data via a legacy Wi-Fi system. Random number addressing cryptography (RAC) is used for encryption due to its high speed, low power usage, and security. The IDSM system connects individual household meters to a centralized server that calculates billing amounts and sends updates back to the meters for display. The goal is to provide secure metering and billing that reduces human error and electricity theft while lowering costs.

Green Lights Forever: Analyzing the Security of Traffic Infrastructure
The safety critical nature of traffic infrastructure requires
that it be secure against computer-based attacks, but this
is not always the case. We investigate a networked traffic
signal system currently deployed in the United States
and discover a number of security flaws that exist due
to systemic failures by the designers. We leverage these
flaws to create attacks which gain control of the system,
and we successfully demonstrate them on the deployment
in coordination with authorities. Our attacks show that
an adversary can control traffic infrastructure to cause
disruption, degrade safety, or gain an unfair advantage.
We make recommendations on how to improve existing
systems and discuss the lessons learned for embedded
systems security in general.
Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) are applications that collect data from a system in order to automate the monitoring and controlling of its activities. Several industrial fields such as, electric utilities, water supplies and buildings' facilities have already adopted SCADA systems to increase the efficiency and reduce cost. However, the IT community is concerned about the level of security that any applied SCADA system provides. This paper concentrates on the major security threats encountered in SCADA systems. In addition, it discusses a new proposed methodology in order to increase the system security with minimal impact on efficiency. The proposed scheme provides several security services which are mutual authentication, confidentiality, data integrity and accountability.

This document discusses cyber security in smart grids. It begins with an introduction to smart grids and their reliance on information and communication technologies (ICT). It then discusses three security objectives for smart grids: data availability, confidentiality, and integrity. Several types of cyber attacks on smart grids are described, including denial-of-service attacks, random attacks, and false data injection attacks. The document concludes by evaluating techniques for detecting attacks, such as using chi-square tests and cosine similarity matching to compare expected and measured smart grid data.

This document discusses issues related to smart grid resilience and proposed enhancements. It begins with an introduction to smart grids and the concept of resilience. Major issues discussed include cyber threats like false data injection attacks and denial-of-service attacks, as well as natural disasters. Several enhancement techniques are then proposed, such as using energy storage systems, distributed energy resources, microgrids, and blockchain technology. The document focuses on cybersecurity issues in more depth, outlining various false data injection attacks and their potential impacts. It also discusses denial-of-service attacks and proposes detection and mitigation methods. Overall, the document analyzes resilience challenges in smart grids and presents technical solutions aimed at improving system reliability and recovery capabilities.
This document analyzes security models for SCADA networks that control critical infrastructure. It presents two models: Model 1 uses digital signatures for authentication, while Model 2 uses challenge-response authentication. The document evaluates these models through threat analysis and vulnerability analysis to verify they provide the intended security against attacks like modification, spoofing, and man-in-the-middle attacks. The analyses show the models have potential to prevent such threats to SCADA systems.
FLOODING ATTACK DETECTION AND MITIGATION IN SDN WITH MODIFIED ADAPTIVE THRESH...IJCNCJournal
Flooding attack is a network attack that sends a large amount of traffic to the victim networks or services to cause denial-of-service. In Software-Defined Networking (SDN) environment, this attack might not only breach the hosts and services but also the SDN controller. Besides, it will also cause a disconnection of links between the controller and the switches. Thus, an effective detection and mitigation technique of flooding attacks is required. Statistical analysis techniques are widely used for the detection and mitigation of flooding attacks. However, the effectiveness of these techniques strongly depends on the defined threshold. Defining the static threshold is a tedious job and most of the time produces a high false positive alarm .In this paper, we proposed the dynamic threshold which is calculated using modified adaptive threshold algorithm (MATA). The original ATA is based on the Exponential Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) formula which produces the high number of false alarms. To reduce the false alarms, the alarm signal will only be generated after a minimum number of consecutive violations of the threshold. This, however, has increased the false negative rate when the network is under attack. In order to reduce this false negative rate, MATA adapted the baseline traffic info of the network infrastructure. The comparative analysis of MATA and ATA are performed through the measurement of false negative rate, and accuracy of detection rate. Our experimental results show that MATA is able to reduce false negative rates up to 17.74% and increase the detection accuracy of 16.11%over the various types of flooding attacks at the transport layer.
Critical Information Infrastructure Systems WorldwideAngela Hays
The document discusses the training that the author underwent at Finetech Controls Pvt. Ltd., which covered the fundamentals of industrial automation including components like switches, sensors, controllers, drives, and programmable logic controllers. The training also included how to operate and program PLCs to remotely control industrial processes, as well as the basics of variable frequency drives for motor speed and rotation control. The author was educated on the principles, applications, and installation of automation equipment used in manufacturing and material handling processes.
This document discusses the cyber security risks of smart grids and proposes an integrated security framework to address these risks. Smart grids integrate information infrastructure with electrical infrastructure, improving performance but also increasing vulnerability to cyber attacks. The framework features security agents, managed security switches, and a security manager to provide layered protection, intrusion detection, and access control across the power automation network in a scalable and extensible manner. This integrated approach is needed as power systems have different security needs than traditional IT networks.
