Underwriting service assistant Rachel and her Goldendoodle Molly are excited about their new journey at State Farm. Born with a rare genetic connective tissue disorder, Rachel relies on her wheelchair and her service dog outside the confines of her home. "Working with a service dog is not too difficult, but it does take extra planning. Molly and I have traveled to six different states. We have been to baseball games, concerts, arcades, college, and recently added State Farm to the list." On a mission to find a career that would allow her to use her new political science degree and passion for helping people, Rachel explored a career at State Farm. "I was initially worried about joining the workforce and concerned about how accepting organizations would be. I chose State Farm because of my education and dedication to helping others. The hiring process was smooth, and I have been impressed with my team and leadership. "My manager provided an opportunity for me to educate our teams on working with service animals in the office. Everyone has been respectful and friendly towards us both. We have some fans when we go in the office." For Rachel, Disability Pride Month is another chance to advocate and create an inclusive environment. "Disability Pride Month allows me and other individuals with and without disabilities to learn, bond, and share experiences with each other. Sharing our knowledge, needs, and expertise helps create awareness and community, ultimately fostering increased accessibility and cultivating a sense of pride and identity among disabled individuals.” Explore career opportunities with organizations that value diversity and foster inclusive environments at https://lnkd.in/gZ5WskN

Sean, a human resources and development (HR&D) intern at State Farm, shares his perspective on the internship program. "Interning at State Farm means I get to be challenged and gain experience with corporate America for the first time, all while having fun and making great relationships." Sean outlines three crucial aspects he seeks in an internship. "First, I aim to extensively learn about HR&D functions, particularly the daily tasks that contribute to enhancing the enterprise. Second, I value the chance to build a strong network and establish lasting friendships and mentorships. Finally, I desire to be challenged and engage in critical thinking, allowing me to think outside the box and enhance my problem-solving skills." Following in his father's legacy, Sean is confident in his decision to intern with State Farm. "My dad has worked for the organization over 30 years. Knowing that my father has had such a long and successful career with State Farm reassures me that this is a fantastic place to be." Ever since he was a teenager, State Farm independent contractor agent Michael Garey dreamed of being his own boss but was unsure of what kind of business to pursue. "In college, I ended up switching my major, graduating with a degree in finance and then jumped into the banking world at the age of 21. As a loan officer, I was exposed to a wide variety of businesses and got to know other business owners. During a work event, a State Farm agent introduced me to the opportunity. Having been a State Farm customer for many years, the more I learned, the more it opened a door I never knew existed.” Michael reflects on his career as a State Farm agent and shares what keeps him motivated. "When I opened my second location 17 years after my first office, it wasn't because I needed more to do. It was the drive to reach even just one more person and help make a difference in their life. Although it took a lot of time and effort to build my career and future, I would do it all over again if given the chance." "I was excited about the opportunity to work on a project for the organization while being supported by supervisors, mentors, and peers." As an intern in the property and casualty underwriting department, Davis is eager to enhance her risk management skills. "I have been learning about the different departments in the company, which has given me a more complete understanding of the insurance industry processes. I am conducting research to understand the impacts of Secondary Perils, such as tsunamis after an earthquake or damage from lightning. I am very excited to present my research." Davis emphasizes the three key aspects she seeks in an internship: the opportunity for growth and professional experience, access to professional leadership and mentoring, and a friendly and welcoming company culture. "On my first day, I was greeted with warm smiles and cheers, as well as an inbox full of personalized cards from State Farm employees, including managers and executives. Interning at State Farm means getting to be a part of the neighborhood of hard-working individuals who are passionate about helping people." Ariel McLanahan was in search of a gratifying career – one where she could make a difference, while having the flexibility to be there for her family as well. "Soon after the birth of my first son, I came across the State Farm independent contractor agent opportunity. I began as an agent team member working for two agents. Over those eight years, I gained experience and a strong foundation. With two children, my husband and I relocated 850 miles away to open my own agent office in South Carolina." Though still in the early stages of her career, Ariel shares her vision of what she hopes to leave behind. "I’m very proud of what my team and I continue to build for the community. The culture of my agent office means everything to me – people leave feeling like family. My end goal is to make a lasting impact on my team members, State Farm customers, and the community. Work hard, be kind, and take good care of people. It’s simple, but results will follow." Learn more about becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent: https://lnkd.in/giWjAvk9

July is Disability Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the strength, resilience, and unique identities of individuals with disabilities. For Shane, a public relations manager, celebrating this month is not just about personal reflection but also about fostering community and promoting understanding. "In my experience, recognizing Disability Pride Month and talking about how we’re differently abled can help others feel less alone. "When I hear people talking about having Tourette’s or a stutter like me, I feel this sense of camaraderie from the shared experience. Since I’m usually the only one in my professional and friend groups with tics, remembering there are others like me is super helpful." Shane's journey emphasizes the significance of visibility and community in embracing one's disability. "I recommend that anyone struggling to embrace their own disability to find a community of others who share a similar experience. Companies like State Farm, for example, have great employee resource groups. If you feel alone, resources like that can make you feel less so."
