We were thrilled to celebrate Pride Month at Housing Works Bookstore a few weeks ago with the launch party for this year’s Pride in Your Words Zine! The third edition of our annual zine, created in partnership with the PRH LGBTQ+ Network, features excerpts from queer authors, spotlights on queer book clubs and banned books, an LGBTQ+ reading list, and more. Each zine also comes with an exclusive sticker set celebrating queer stories, commissioned from artists at the queer-owned and -operated High Hopes Tattoo. Attendees at the event were able to pick up free copies of the zine and stickers, make their own zines at our zine-making station, and get a free (real!) tattoo from the artists of High Hopes Tattoo. You can download a free digital copy of the zine and sticker sheet, plus find hundreds of LGBTQ+ book recommendations for Pride Month and year-round at PRH.com/PrideReads! #Pride

We’re celebrating the launch of the 1,000th library transformation! A major milestone in our Libraries for Primaries campaign 🎉   Yesterday, Her Majesty The Queen opened the 1,000th school library at Moreland Primary School in Islington. The opening included a special recital of a poem penned by the Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho, exclusively for the occasion:   “This thousand is just one step and we shall make thousands more for every school must have a library every library opens a thousand doors.”   Since 2018, we have been working alongside the National Literacy Trust to help transform hundreds of primary school libraries across the country by providing books and training for teachers to help create hubs of creativity and imagination.    With the opening of this 1,000th library, we have now provided more than 382,000 primary-aged children across the UK with vital access to books. The campaign now looks to reach the remaining schools without a library in the UK by 2028 📚🧡 Read more about the day >> https://lnkd.in/gmnVmaar    #books #book #library #libraries #schoollibrary #schoollibraries #reading #readers #publishing #workinpublishing #PenguinBooks

Did you know Penguin Random House is home to 139 Pulitzer Prize recipients? This year, we're so very happy to honor two authors for their 2024 Pulitzer wins: Cristina Rivera Garza and Jayne Anne Phillips! Garza is the author behind the 2024 Memoir or Autobiography Pulitzer winner, Liliana's Invincible Summer: A Sister's Search for Justice, "a genre-bending account of the author’s 20-year-old sister, murdered by a former boyfriend, that mixes memoir, feminist investigative journalism and poetic biography stitched together with a determination born of loss." (Pulitzer citation) Phillips is the recipient of the Fiction Pulitzer for her novel Night Watch, “a beautifully rendered novel set in West Virginia’s Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in the aftermath of the Civil War where a severely wounded Union veteran, a 12-year-old girl and her mother, long abused by a Confederate soldier, struggle to heal.” (Pulitzer citation) We are immensely proud of the titles and their deserving authors, and we'd like to extend a happy congratulations to their editors! The dedicated and inimitable work of our editors and each publishing team make these wins possible. #PulitzerPrize #publishing
