The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is a public-private partnership whose mission is to accelerate biopharmaceutical innovation, support the development of standards that enable more efficient and rapid manufacturing capabilities, and educate and train a world-leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing workforce, fundamentally advancing U.S. competitiveness in this industry. NIIMBL is part of Manufacturing USA®, a diverse network of federally-sponsored manufacturing innovation institutes, and is funded through a cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. Department of Commerce with significant additional support from its members.

In April, representatives from 70+ organizations from across the #biopharma ecosystem gathered in Boston for the first U.S. Biopharma Workforce Partnership Conference. The event offered a chance to make new connections and form partnerships that will strengthen talent acquisition efforts within the #biopharmaceutical industry. It was a packed two days full of excitement, enthusiasm, and partnership as we look for ways to work together and build the biopharma workforce of the future. NIIMBL and The Open Applications Group have partnered to develop #biopharma #manufacturing ontologies as an open-source project, allowing for greater participation and adoption. Check out this recent article in Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News highlighting this partnership and the benefits of #data standardization. https://lnkd.in/eFnZvUxp
NIIMBL and OAGi Team Up to Help Drug Industry Align on Data There is a lack of standardization when it comes to analytics. This partnership encourages adoption of common standards. The partnership—announced in June—will focus on a major source of variation in drug production says Roger Hart, PhD, NIIMBL senior fellow and Big Data project lead. What does the future of #biopharma #manufacturing look like? How do we get there? Our panel of experts from Cytiva, Boehringer Ingelheim, MilliporeSigma, Sartorius, and Vir Biotechnology, Inc. tackled those questions during our Visions and Challenges panel on Wednesday during the National Meeting.
Our 2024 NIIMBL National Meeting got off to a fantastic start yesterday with remarks for National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Director Laurie Locascio, FDA Acting Chief Scientist David Strauss, and FDA CBER Director Peter Marks. Then, we had a full day of concurrent sessions focused on topics such as #bigdata, the #biopharma #manufacturing factory of the future, ontologies, inclusive #workforcedevelopment, and more. Our National Meeting brings the NIIMBL community together for plenty of thought-provoking discussion. We look forward much of the same this week in Washington, D.C. #biopharmaceuticals #biopharma #lifesciences #biomanufacturing #biotechnology #biotech
Our National Meeting week in Washington, D.C. kicked off with our Dancing with Venture event on Monday afternoon, connecting member small and medium-sized companies with venture capitalists in the #lifesciences. In addition to pitches from our SMM community and introductions from investors, the event featured fascinating perspectives and insights from our SMM panel discussion, fireside chat, and managing cash flow session. Thank you to our SMM panelists Nicole Merli, MBA, CRA (LumaCyte), Alina Alexeenko (LyoWave, Inc.), Erica Dawson (InDevR, Inc.), and Lena Wu (Phizzle), our Fireside Chat participants Daniella Kranjac (AVANT BIO) and John Bagdonas, CEP, FGE, NDEF (J.P. Morgan), and managing cash flow speakers Fletcher King and James Fitzgerald (Morgan Stanley), as well as our opening speaker Jorge Lamboy, PhD (National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) #biotech #biopharmaceuticals #biomanufacturing
We are excited to share we have contributed biopharmaceutical manufacturing ontologies to Open Applications Group for further development as an open-source project. Ontologies are semantic information models tailored for domain experts with clear, formal, and natural language definitions and labels. It represents a data domain through entities, their relations to each other, and literal values. “These biopharma-specific ontologies will improve interoperability and optimize productivity by allowing data engineers to access, analyze, and share data about their manufacturing processes,” said Roger Hart, NIIMBL Senior Fellow and Big Data Project Lead. “The open-source platform will ensure industry access to the ontologies and allow for continued development and modifications. It will also provide a centralized repository to collect and curate ontologies which are currently privately created and used by small groups within the community.” You can get involved in the continued development of biopharma ontologies by joining OAGi's Industry Ontology Foundry. #NIIMBLeXperience2024 is in full swing this week with four programs happening at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Thomas Jefferson University (Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing), NC State BTEC, and the University of Houston and another set for later in June at Santa Clara University. We look forward to introducing 60 talent students to careers in the #biopharma industry. #NIIMBLeXperience2024 #NIIMBLeXperienceACPHS #NIIMBLeXperienceNCState #NIIMBLeXperienceSCU #NIIMBLeXperienceTJU #NIIMBLeXperienceUH #biotech #talent #workforceofthefuture #STEM #biopharmaceuticalmanufacturing #diversity #futureofbiopharmamanufacturing #niimbl https://lnkd.in/edS6Ge8D
We had a great 1st official day of #NIIMBLeXperienceNCState! 1st and 2nd year students from New York all the way down to Puerto Rico got to learn about the #biopharma field and participated in an upstream lab activity with bioreactors at NC State BTEC! Thanks NIIMBL | The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals for giving these students a chance to explore the field! #biotech #STEM #diversity #NIIMBL #niimblexperience2024
The NIIMBL eXperience offers first and second year college students from underrepresented populations a glimpse into the multitude of career pathways in the biopharma industry. Do you want to play a key role in introducing the next group of talented STEM-focused students to this transformative industry? The 2025 NIIMBL eXperience Request for Applications is now open. We are seeking NIIMBL academic or non-profit member organizations to serve as regional lead organizations that will plan, recruit students, and run a NIIMBL eXperience program in their region during the summer of 2025.
