Big congratulations to IACMI member, Vartega on moving to 100% renewable electricity!
We’re overdue to announce that we’ve moved to 100% renewable electricity! As a company with a core focus on sustainability, we believe that our process is only as good as its dirtiest aspect, which means we’re always looking for ways to make our administrative and production processes more efficient without cutting corners or sacrificing the quality of work that we’re known for. It’s with that in mind that we decided to opt in to Excel Energy’s 100% renewable energy program to power our facility in Denver, Colorado. This facility encompasses practically all the work that Vartega does from paperwork to production of our final product. This means that our process is about as clean as we can possibly make it at the moment, with the only fossil fuel we burn being natural gas we use in a small part of our production process. Through this continuous improvement of even the small details of our processes, we’ve even further lowered the carbon footprint of our process vs that involved with the production of virgin carbon fiber, with virgin fiber emitting between 24 and 31 kg of Co2 per kg of carbon fiber, and our process only emitting between 0.6 - 1.0 kg of Co2 per kg of finished product. While there’s always more room for growth, we are excited to share this next step towards an even more sustainable alternative in composites. #renewableenergy #sustainabilityincomposites #sustainablesolutions
