Sara Carillo, the Bioanalytical Research Lead at NIBRT, recently collaborated with the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II on a research paper focused on understanding the interaction between the immune system and microbial antigens, a crucial step in developing new strategies against multi-drug resistant pathogens. In this multidisciplinary study, the team investigated the interaction mechanisms between a vaccine candidate for Neisseria gonorrhoeae and a therapeutic monoclonal antibody. They employed techniques such as NMR, SAXS, X-ray crystallography, and native mass spectrometry. The structural data obtained from this research will aid in improving the design of therapeutic or preventive drugs.
