Biochar is Booming… 💥 Here’s why it’s getting so much attention from climate researchers and project developers: First, the trend: In 2020 there were less than 1,000 tonnes of biochar-linked CO2e removal units (tCO2e) ➡ which grew to 34,000 tCO2e in 2022 ➡ and to 65,000 tCO2e in 2023. This rapid growth in production is set to continue through the 2020s… 🚀 To complement the launch of the Manual for Biochar Carbon Removal that we created with International Biochar Initiative, we have written a blog breaking down the recent biochar explosion… The blog covers: ⚡️ The recent history of biochar and its current growth trends and scalability ⚡️ Biochar’s impressive carbon sequestration abilities ⚡️ The elements of a successful biochar project and more... Right now, biochar projects are proving to be an attractive value proposition for developers looking to join the carbon market.
