On July 4, 2009, North Korea launches seven short-range ballistic missiles, with a range of 400 km, into the Sea of Japan. This launch, just two days after a test launching four missiles, was a violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1874. Sanctions imposed following underground nuclear testing conducted in May. Launched from the port of Wonson, the missiles provided an opportunity to test the missile defense system components based in Japan, Alaska, California, Hawaii, and at sea aboard Navy ships in the Pacific in a real-world environment. #TBT

“This campaign of experimentation is invaluable because it lets us learn from each other, rather than learning from an unexpected crisis. This is the single best forum for us to collectively work through these potential threats and challenges, and to illustrate the necessity of the partnerships and collaboration that happens here,” said Lt. Gen. Thomas L. James, deputy commander for U.S. Space Command. https://lnkd.in/eeiVwAht
