Microsoft announced numerous updates to its Surface lineup at its May 20 Microsoft AI Event. Here's what we know about the Laptop 7.

Surface Laptop 7 Release Date

The commercial version of the Surface Laptop 6, dubbed the Surface Laptop 7th edition, was unveiled (alongside the commercial Surface Pro 10/Surface Pro 11th Edition) at Microsoft's special pre-Build Copilot event on May 20. It will be available starting June 18.

We saw the enterprise and business models of the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 at the Surface event on March 21. Those versions became available on April 9.

Surface Laptop 7 Price

The Surface Laptop 7 starts around the same price range as the Surface Laptop 5, though the 15-inch display sees a considerable $100 bump.

  • Snapdragon X Elite chips: As anticipated, the Surface Laptop 6 models feature smaller, faster, and more battery-friendly Arm processors for the general public. Specifically, the Surface Laptop 6 uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chips, which offer better performance and efficiency (by 86 percent) than the Intel chips in current models.
  • Design updates: This new chipset allows for more design updates, including a larger display but much slimmer bezels, a new haptic touchpad, and an AI-powered camera. The Laptop 6 models also get three USB ports: two USB-4 and one USB-A.
  • Better battery life: The 7th edition Surface Laptops boast a 20-hour run before charging, which is a few hours over the 18-hour capacity of the Surface Laptop 5.
  • AI power: These new Surface Laptops are Copilot + PCs, which means AI is baked into every inch of the device—and capable of 45 trillion operations per second. Live Captions provides real-time subtitles and translation of over 40 languages, and Recall searches your entire PC's timeline to retrieve files, emails, or web pages so you don't have to.
