Asus VR Headset: News and Expected Price, Release Date, Specs; and More Rumors

A performance gaming headset built on Meta’s Horizon OS

Like Microsoft and Lenovo, Asus is jumping on the Meta Horizon OS bandwagon with a VR headset of its own. This performance gaming headset is still very much under wraps, but here’s the buzz around it so far and our predictions.

When Will the Asus VR Headset Be Released?

It’s anyone’s guess as to when the Asus ROG VR Headset will debut. Asus typically drops a lot of new products at CES at the start of the year. Maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of it at CES 2025? As rumors swirl, we’ll be sure to add them here.

Lifewire's Release Date Estimate

We're on the lookout for a preview and/or release date details at CES 2025.

Asus VR Headset Price Rumors

There’s nothing circulating about the Asus VR Headset price, but it’s worth speculating that if the device is similar to the Meta Quest 3, it could at least match that headset's starting price of $500.

However, if this headset comes with all the ROG bells and whistles of its premium gaming rigs, we might see a price point that trends below but closer to the Apple Vision Pro.

Pre-Order Information

Asus hasn’t listed any pre-ordering details, but come back here for specifics once official word drops.

Asus VR Headset Features

In its Horizon OS announcement blog post, Meta only hinted at Asus’s current work with the new open-source mixed reality operating system, saying that Asus ROG "will use its expertise as a leader in gaming solutions to develop an all-new performance gaming headset.”

The blog post also shared Asus Co-CEO S.Y. Hsu’s excitement about the partnership and work ahead:

"We’ve been inspired by the incredible gaming community that has formed around virtual and mixed reality, and we know that the most passionate gamers want high-performance hardware," Hsu said. "With Meta Horizon OS, ASUS and Republic of Gamers will build the gaming headset of the next generation."

We have no official product renderings, but Asus ROG's X channel shared the same image Meta included in its Horizon OS, with a headset, haptic vest, and controller all in black. Some speculate the Asus ROG VR Headset will feature the ROG lineup's signature angular lines and RGB lighting

Beyond speculation about the appearance and accessories, we do know that this headset will benefit from Meta’s commitment to opening up its store. Rebranded as the Meta Horizon Store, this marketplace will include App Lab titles that work across all Horizon OS headsets. Access will also be open through other channels like Steam Link or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Asus VR Headset Specs and Hardware

We know that Microsoft’s Xbox VR headset is billed as a limited-edition Meta. Neither Meta nor Asus has hinted at any similar sort of collaboration, but it’s probably safe to assume that the Asus VR Headset will mirror a lot of Meta Quest 3 features.

The only other thing we know for sure is that all Horizon OS headsets will use Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. It’s plausible that the VR headset for Asus will also feature Quest 3’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor.

Beyond the chip, we’ll be on the lookout for any official announcements and chatter to add to the conversation here.
