Experience
Jon has been writing about tech for over 10 years. His work includes everything from software reviews to troubleshooting guides, definitions of complex technology terms, and opinion articles. His content can be seen on Lifewire, Android Police, TechNorms, Online-Tech-Tips, Geekflare, Guiding Tech, and Help Desk Geek.
Before moving into writing, Jon was a help desk technician for an airplane parts manufacturer where he provided on-site and remote tech support for hundreds of employees across three locations. His work there involved handling all the help desk support tickets, which included upgrading computer hardware and software, troubleshooting why programs weren't working as they should, educating co-workers on how to use software, configuring phones and computers, managing license servers, and installing networking hardware.
Working directly with users to understand their problems even when they didn’t know how to describe them is what enabled Jon to translate complex ideas and guides into easily digestible learning experiences.
My Gear
I run Windows 11 Pro on the NUC 8 Pro (NUC8v7PNH). There's 32 GB of RAM and two SSDs, perfect for hosting all the virtual machines I use for testing software and older operating systems.
There are two monitors attached to my computer. One is a widescreen Samsung monitor that I use as my primary display, and the other is from ASUS.
My primary phone is the Pixel 5a, but I use an iPad and some older Android phones for double-checking any work associated with those devices.
Education
Jon graduated from Wichita Technical Institute in 2010 with six IT certifications:
