Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: News and Expected Price, Release Date, Specs; and More Rumors

The screens may be bigger, but don't get excited about the camera

The Z Fold 5 came out last August and the next in the lineup is expected soon. Here's what we know so far about the Z Fold 6.

When Will the Z Fold 6 Be Released?

Z Fold phones typically come out in the late summer; Samsung usually announces them in July, and they come out in August. We expect this pattern to hold.

Lifewire's Release Date Estimate

Look for the Z Fold 6 in August 2024, with a probable pre-release announcement coming in July.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Price Rumors

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts at $1,800 for a model with 256GB of memory. If Samsung keeps that option, we expect the Z Fold 6 to start at the same price (with the Fold 5 getting a price cut). Versions with more storage will cost more.

Depending on features, that price could go up, but $1,800 is the lowest we expect.

Pre-Order Information

Samsung will announce pre-orders once the Z Fold 6 is official. Check back here for more information when it's available.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Specs and Features

All we have are rumors at this point. The Z Fold 5 wasn't markedly different from its predecessor, but Samsung is reportedly planning some changes with the 6.

The biggest update may be with the form factor, including the screen size and case. Stalwart leaker Revegnus on X (formerly Twitter) says that the display will be bigger, while the phone's overall weight will go down.

A more minor (but welcome) addition to Samsung's foldable offerings may appear in the Fold 6: dust resistance. Android Authority reports the following from the company's head of mobile, T.M. Roh (via machine translation):

"We are well aware of consumer demand for dust proofing, and we are making various efforts to achieve this, but due to the nature of foldables, there are many moving parts, so dust proofing is difficult."

That's far from a confirmation, but it's a popular request that the company is definitely working on.

Some elements will likely remain the same. Revegnus says that the Z Fold 5's camera is sticking around for the time being, with new hardware waiting for the Fold 7.

In this case, here are the specs for the Fold 6's rear sensors (we don't know if the front cameras will get an update, but rumors say no):

  • 50MP wide
  • 12MP ultra-wide
  • 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom
  • 30X space zoom

Like dust resistance, another "nice-to-have" option that could come with the Fold 6 (or not) is an integrated S Pen. Adding a stylus to a phone comes with several design concessions. For example, it puts a hard limit on how thin the device can be, and it can reduce battery life because you have to charge both the phone and the S Pen.

Samsung isn't ruling out a built-in stylus, but the company reportedly hasn't figured out a way to make it work yet.

This phone is expected to come in navy, pink, and silver shadow colors. If you purchase it online, white and crafted black will be two other options.

We've also seen reports about a potential Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, but it might be available only in China.
