Apple Vision Pro Headset: News, Pricing, Release Date, and Specs

Apple's AR headset is out after years of rumors

At least two Apple headsets are looking to take shape over the next few years, and the first is Vision Pro a premium virtual reality headset.

Apple Vision Pro Release Date

Apple announced its first headset on June 5, 2023 at the start of the WWDC 2023. It came out on February 2, 2024.

Apple Vision Pro Headset Pricing

The headset is more expensive than we expected, starting at $3,499.

Multiple versions are expected, given that the price "starts" there. We've heard rumors that one model might support 1 TB of storage space.

The 2022 Meta Quest Pro launched at $1,500, which is definitely in line with how Apple prices its other products—the iPhone 14 Pro Max is just over $1,000.

Apple plans to release a more affordable headset a few years after this one, according to Mark Gurman.

Pre-Order Information

Pre-orders for the Apple Vision Pro will begin on January 19, 2024. We'll include a link here when it goes live.

Apple Vision Pro Headset Features & Specs

When you put on an Apple Vision Pro headset, you see your surroundings instead of jumping right into a virtual environment. Home view shows your apps just like a home screen on an iPhone. The headset looks like ski googles and has a modular design to allow for different head sizes. It also has a built-in fan for cooling and a separate battery that you put in your pocket or purse.

Mark Gurman sums up what the device looks like in one sentence:

It looks like a high-tech pair of ski goggles, features a new magnetic charger for power, has a curved front with an external screen to show a wearer’s facial expressions and eyes, and several external cameras to enable video pass-through, depth sensing and hand control.

The headset has many of the same features found on an iPhone or iPad. This 3D world will let you access familiar apps like Safari, Mail, texts, and more, including calendar information, contacts, maps, notes, photos, and books.

It's controlled by your eyes, hands, and voice (via Siri) - no separate controller.

If you're looking at someone wearing one of these, you can tell if they can see you or not. EyeSight feature displays your eyes on the outside of the headset when you're not "immersed." *shiver*

The Vision Pro takes popular apps like FaceTime and makes them more immersive. Panorama photos wrap around you. You can use it as a 3D camera with spatial photos, videos, and audio.

You can watch movies and TV as if you're in a theater, access major streaming platforms like Disney Plus, stream 3D movies, play Apple Arcade games, and more.

Work-wise, the Vision Pro will enhance the video conference experience, making them feel more immersive and "in-person." It works with Bluetooth accessories, including the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. You can also bring your Mac into the experience.

Here are some other features:

  • Two ultra-high-resolution display with 23 million pixels across both
  • 90Hz refresh rate by default, but up to 100Hz depending on the content
  • A fan to deal with heat from the processor and battery
  • M2 chip
  • Iris scanning for authenticating your account and making payments
