Proud to see #PumpedHydro fulfilling the majority of the demand pick up at half time in last night's #Euro2024 game. These charts are a great reminder of the complexities involved in predicting and balancing supply and demand in real time and why #energystorage is a non negotiable.
🦁 Take a look at how demand for electricity in Great Britain fluctuated during last night’s #Euro2024 Spain vs England final and how this compared to the Italy vs England Euro 2020 final. ⚽ Last night, demand began to fall before the 8pm kick-off and continued to do so until half time. We experienced a rapid demand pick up of 1300MW at half time which we fulfilled using 700MW of hydro 💧, 400MW of batteries 🔋 and increasing conventional units already running. As the second half kicked off, demand for electricity fell until the full time whistle where we experienced demand increase gradually by 600MW. During the Italy vs England final in 2020, you can see a sharp rise in demand at full time as the nation rushed to get refreshments in the short gap before extra time kicked off. Because last night’s final ended after 90 minutes the increase in demand was much more gradual.
