    Our CEO Ben Elliott had the pleasure of being a panellist at Planes Studio's ‘Breaking Into Product Design’ event last week.   It was a pleasure to sit alongside Venessa Bennett, Marisa Jensen and Liz Hamburger 🍔 and talk all things portfolios, interviews, design tasks and general tips for progressing through the ranks.    The event was a sell-out and we know a few people couldn’t get a ticket so we've summarised some takeaways for you below....    🖼️ Your portfolio: If you’ve come out of Uni or a Bootcamp and your case studies are the same as everyone else on that course (and who is probably applying to the same roles you are), you are not standing out from the crowd. You have to add a case study that’s unique to you and your portfolio.     👂What soft skills are most key?     1. Passion. This isn’t you just saying ‘I’m a passionate designer’ , this is you demonstrating why you are willing to go above and beyond to learn and be better.    2. Attention to detail. The seniors in your future company do not have enough time to check all your work all the time. If you don’t pay attention to detail on your portfolio or your design task don’t expect people to think you pay attention to work IRL.     📣 Interview feedback: Stay strong and stay positive. Just because you didn’t get the role, it doesn’t mean somebody thinks you couldn’t do the role - just that they picked somebody else.
