Supply chain due diligence requires end-to-end traceability. As mandated by the EU Battery Regulation, economic operators must implement a traceability system to prove the provenance, material flows and quantities of cobalt, natural graphite, lithium and nickel in their batteries - by August 2025. Combined with geopolitical, economic and climate risks, manufacturers globally need increased transparency and control of their upstream activities to prove responsible sourcing and risk mitigation efforts. Circulor’s Material Traceability solution provides verifiable and auditable proof of supply chain activities to satisfy regulators, and our existing network means you can do this quickly and efficiently. Copper is essential for a vast array of decarbonization technologies however, the production of copper can generate adverse environmental impacts and currently contributes approximately 0.2% of total global GHG emissions. The insightful article below by Christina Iosifidou, Head of Sustainability Grid Technologies at Siemens Energy, outlines the importance of gaining visibility into the copper value chain in order to pull the right levers for decarbonisation. At Siemens Energy Grid Technologies, copper plays a pivotal role in their commitment to reducing GHG emissions and advancing sustainability within their supply chains, highlighted through the collaboration with Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa, and Circulor, on the world's first end-to-end copper traceability used in the transformers for wind turbines. This ground-breaking collaboration, providing visibility into the origin and material flow of this critical material, sets a new standard for supply chain transparency in renewable energy. 🌍 Copper's dual impact on grid decarbonization #Copper is essential for various decarbonizing technologies. And together, these technologies have the potential to account for 2/3 of global GHG emissions’ abatement by 2050. However, copper production itself contributes to global GHG emissions – in total, around 97 million tons annually. And due to population growth, the demand for copper is rapidly increasing. Responsible mining practices and technological innovation are therefore crucial to managing the environmental impacts of copper production and supporting an effective #energytransition. At Siemens Energy Grid Technologies, we are committed to reducing GHG emissions within the copper supply chain. And step by step, together with our partners, we’re getting there. To decarbonize copper means to pull the right levers. How? Find out in my article written with support of Fernando Nuño of the International Copper Association Europe here. 👇 Big thanks also to Katie Schwind, Dirk Averesch, Elena Stadler and Maximilian Schnippering for your contribution! #decarbonization #sustainability

China released new requirements on Saturday regarding rare earths traceability. Taking effect from October 1, the regulation establishes a rare earth traceability system, and requires businesses in rare earth mining, smelting and separation, as well as the export of rare earth products, to establish a product flow record system, recording the flow of materials and entering such data into a traceability system. https://lnkd.in/eKANafe7 #Traceability #RareEarth #REE #CRMA

Thanks to the Critical Minerals Association (UK) for sharing the news on Circulor and Volvo Cars world's first battery passport in their latest newsletter. Volvo’s EX90s are coming to EU and U.S. markets this year with battery passports, powered by Circulor. The passports contain end-to-end primary data about the battery’s raw materials lithium, cobalt, nickel, and graphite, as well as the recycled content and carbon emissions. This takes us into a new era, demonstrating that battery passports are happening at scale and that the need for piloting has passed. More information and industry highlights in the newsletter below.
