ID please! In a recent article DEKRA discussed the Battery regulation (effective since February 2024) and the Battery Pass regulation (effective from February 2027 for batteries with a capacity above 2kWh) and its implications for different actors along the supply chain of batteries. It discusses how Battery Pass project contributes to data requirements and technical standards for battery data infrastructure, and how the project provides know-how in the field of testing and certification. Read the key messages we summarized in English: ♻️ The Battery regulation aims to display the whole life-cycle of the battery, from sourcing the raw materials to its recycling including the social, ecological and economic aspects of it. ☞ The interviewed Kai Maywald (DEKRA) therefore defines the Battery passport as a highly complex "eco-label" 🛒 The Battery Passport has to be provided by the party, that introduces the battery into the (European) market. ⚙️ The technical specifications are not defined by the regulations, the Battery Pass consortium has taken up the challenge to develop a demonstrator and guideline describing the functionalities of the Battery Pass as a base for future passport variants. 💎 The Battery Pass holds a lot of interesting opportunities for stakeholders, such a more efficient recycling process, a boost for second-life re-use of traction batteries (satisfying the increasing demand for energy storage demand). 📚 A blue print for future product passports of additional parts such as tires or other car parts. Battery Pass is a consortium project aiming to advance the implementation of the battery passport in Europe and beyond
Info
Co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Battery Pass consortium project aims to advance the implementation of the battery passport based on requirements of the EU Battery Regulation and beyond. Led by system change company Systemiq GmbH, the consortium comprises eleven partners and a broad network of associated and supporting organisations to draft content and technical standards for a digital battery passport, demonstrate them in a pilot application and assess its potential value. The project started in April 2022 and runs over three years.

Soon, the EU Battery Regulations require certain batteries to have a digital battery passport. Some requirements on performance and durability reporting come into play in August already. TWAICE is part of the Battery Pass Consortium. The consortium helps guide the Battery Passport requirements. As part of our work in the consortium we advise on the performance & durability metrics such as State of Health. Our latest article summarizes the current landscape when it comes to the requirements for performance and durability data: https://lnkd.in/dK_Wzmjh — #TWAICE unleashes the full potential of batteries with battery analytics software #batteries #eu #batterypassport #batteryregulation

Last Friday, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (#ESPR) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. With this step, the ESPR enters into force on 18th July 2024. The ESPR will permit the European Commission to implement - through Delegated Acts - a range of design and reporting requirements for various products sold in the European market. The publication also includes the EU’s definition of a #DPP, and what the priority products will be – including textiles, garments, footwear, furniture, tyres, and more. This act not only establishes a framework of environmental sustainability requirements for European goods, but it also mandates the use of a Digital Product Passport for all products on the EU market! ➡ Find out more at https://lnkd.in/gf_NKmT4 The Battery Pass consortium has been working since 2022 to assess the potential of Digital Battery Passports and provide organisations with the information they need to get ready for the EU's battery passport. 👉 Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eaMdnBSZ #dpp #circulareconomy #batterypassport

🔋 The AI Advantage: Get Ready for Battery Passports 🔋 With greater transparency comes greater responsibility to ensure the supply chain operates ethically and sustainably, writes Sheena Patel in Automotive World. As electric vehicle (EV) makers face the challenge of understanding the sustainability and traceability of each battery pack they source, the introduction of digital battery passports offers both hurdles and opportunities. From February 2027, the EU Battery Regulation will require EV makers to provide digital passports for batteries over 2kWh, disclosing lifetime carbon emissions data and details of material sourcing. The Battery Pass Consortium has recently published technical guidance and a software demonstrator to assist vehicle makers in getting started. This framework aims to establish a standardised approach, setting the stage for the incoming Digital Product Passport (DPP). 👉Read more about how EV makers can prepare for this significant change and leverage AI to enhance supply chain transparency and sustainability: https://lnkd.in/e4paZZSw You can access the technical guidance and our other resources at https://lnkd.in/eaMdnBSZ #BatteryPass #Sustainability #EV #DPP #AI #CircularEconomy
