Eric Wilmes, GIC’s President and Head of Private Equity, Americas, was joined by our long-time partner, Andreas Halvorsen of Viking Global Investors, at this year’s Forbes Iconoclast Summit. During the discussion, moderated by Randall Lane of Forbes, Eric described how GIC’s US footprint has seen steady growth over the last 40 years and represents nearly 40% of our global portfolio today. He also explained how our long-term investment horizon has helped us navigate volatility in the US market and positions us to embrace disruption in today’s complex investment environment, particularly across three major themes where we see opportunity: deglobalisation, decarbonisation, and digitisation. In the US, GIC leverages its deep domain knowledge and local expertise, extensive network of more than 500 partners, and flexible investment approach to invest across the whole capital structure and at every stage of a company’s development. These strengths continue to enable our local teams to act quickly on bottom-up opportunities across public and private markets and stay focused on long-term value. AI has the potential to transform businesses, industries, and economies. Its impact, however, remains uncertain. While it may raise productivity and drive structural economic growth, it could also cause disruption and further inequalities between and within emerging and developed markets, industries, and jobs. At the recent ESS-MOE Annual Economics Seminar 2024, Prakash Kannan, GIC Chief Economist and Director, Economics & Investment Strategy shared his perspective on the economic opportunities and pitfalls that AI may bring for workers, economies, and investors. He also explained GIC’s long-term approach when investing in AI. #GIC #GICSG #Singapore #finance #investing #longterm #AI #economics
