This week the Aware Real Estate team, together with our partners Aware Super and Barings Real Estate Australia marked a major milestone in our residential development pipeline - celebrating the groundbreaking of not one but two BtR projects in Melbourne, bringing over 726 apartments to the people of Preston and Queens Rd combined. The launch of the projects comes as Melbourne’s rental vacancy rate sits at a record low, below 1%, with a surge in migration helping to fuel intense demand. Aware Real Estate Chief Executive Michelle McNally said, “This is a city crying out for more housing and we’re answering the call. Our projects are in areas of strong demand, supported by important infrastructure, key transport links and sought-after amenities. “At all our sites we aim to foster connected communities, attracting a broad range of residents to create great places for people to live, and these developments will be no exception.” Thank you to CEO Deanne Stewart and CIO Damian Graham of Aware Super, together with Hon. Sonya Kilkenny, Minister for Planning Victorian Government, Louise Crawford, Deputy Mayor @Port Philip and Alastair Wright, Head of APAC Barings for celebrating this special occasion with us. It is wonderful to have your support, as noted by Minister Kilkenny, “We know we need more homes built where people want to live and that's exactly what Aware Real Estate are delivering – building hundreds of rental homes close to jobs, transport, schools and essential services.” We also thank Uncle Mark and Uncle Colin for your welcome to country and openly sharing your thoughts on how we can collaborate with First Nations People on these projects, through celebration of art and landscape design and genuinely listening with empathy on how we can work together. Thank you also to our builders Hickory at Queens Rd and Kapitol Group at Preston for your support to date in achieving this milestone. We now look forward to these projects coming out of the ground.
