The One Ring is a central plot point in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. Appearing to be a plain gold band, The One Ring was forged in secret in Mount Doom. It is a malevolent magic Ring of Power that was created by the Dark Lord Sauron in order to control the lesser magic rings that are mentioned in the Ring's secret inscription:

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
