“No person shall depict, disseminate, publish or distribute any wrong or false topographic information of India including international boundaries through internet platforms or online services or in any electronic or physical form," according to the draft bill. “Whoever acquired any geospatial information of India in contravention of the law shall be punished with a fine ranging from ₹ 1 crore to ₹ 100 crore and/ or imprisonment for a period upto seven years."

My question is major social media platforms, news websites and books(few from foreign) shows POK[Pakistan Occupied Kashmir] in Pakistan region so this is illegal in India.

Is it possible for India to change guidelines of companies on world map and free speech to make sure all things published online and available in India aligns with Indian viewpoint of territory. Will it violate any of company's right according to World Trade Organization (WTO)?

Another related question can all multinational companies be fined 100 crore under this law of indian territory. Would WTO Put objections to it?

  • I wonder if the Govt of India would consider it a crime (under India Law) to publish an article discussing disputed regions, with several maps which show the claim made by each party to the territory?

India is a sovereign nation - it can ban whatever it wants

Subject to any constraints in the Indian Constitution. Article 19(1)(a) does guarantee free speech, however:

  1. It only applies to Indian citizens, not corporations (domestic or foreign),
  2. Such rights are never absolute and are subject to such regulation, which is appropriate for maintaining good order in society.

So, yes, India can ban "wrong or false topographic information of India" and impose penalties on anyone who violates the ban. They can enforce those penalties on anyone they can, so for an organisation based in the USA but not operating in India, they have virtually no chance of collecting fines or imprisoning people.
