Due to climate change, the water temperature of the Rhine harbor basins rises dramatically in the summer months and regularly causes the growth of toxic cyanobacteria. To address this issue, Asahi Kasei Europe has announced a pioneering environmental partnership with Marina Düsseldorf. The joint project "Rescue the Rhine" aims to sustainably increase the climate resilience of the Düsseldorf yacht harbor and turn it into a largely natural, green oasis. This is achieved by installing plant islands equipped with water-purifying plants to filter out phosphates, nitrates and other environmental toxins that promote blue-green algae from the water in order to effectively reduce the concentration of cyanobacteria. To keep the water around the modular gardens moving and thus counteract the development of cyanobacteria, every plant island installed in the Düsseldorf marina has an underwater aerator. The oxygen promotes plant growth and at the same time provides fish with vital oxygen in the poorly circulating harbor basin water during periods of extreme heat. At Asahi Kasei Europe, we are excited to partake in a project that has a positive impact on our community and benefits not just our team, but all those who enjoy the local harbor basins. #CommunityEffort #AsahiKaseiEurope

Our latest global Automotive Consumer Survey, now in its fifth year, offers profound insights into brand loyalty and buying behaviors across major automotive markets like Germany, the United States, China, and Japan. For our 2023 survey, there were a total of 4,158 participants with interviews conducted online. The results underscore a shifting landscape marked by intensified competition, emerging manufacturers, and evolving customer preferences, all contributing to wavering brand loyalty worldwide. More than half of the respondents in Germany and the USA plan to change the brand of their next car, while customers in China are remarkably open to switching car brands, with 79% indicating they would choose a model from a different manufacturer. This is just a preview of the many insights offered in this year's results. We are excited to announce that Asahi Kasei began selling a membrane system to produce WFI (water for injection), a type of sterile water that is used for the preparation of injections. The membrane system was developed as an alternative to the conventional distillation processes for producing WFI by leveraging system design and development capabilities of Microza™ hollow-fiber membrane for water treatment and filtration of liquid products. By reducing the need to generate steam, this system enables lower CO2 emissions and lower costs in the production of WFI. By facilitating the transition from traditional distillation processes to a membrane filtration process, we expect the new system to allow its customers to reduce CO2 emissions while producing a stable supply of safer WFI for the pharmaceutical industry. We are thrilled to share that Crystal IS, an Asahi Kasei company, today announced the successful serial production of 100 mm diameter single-crystal aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates with 99% usable area, based on current requirements for UVC LEDs, with manufacturing to take place in the United States. The ultra-wide bandgap and high thermal conductivity of AlN help improve device reliability and performance in UVC LEDs, next-generation RF, and power devices. This achievement follows the company’s announcement of the first-ever recorded 100 mm diameter in August of last year, which won the Grand Prize in the category of Electronic Materials for Semiconductors in the 2024 Semiconductor of the Year Awards. We are excited to share the launch of the CQ36, a new line of integrated circuits (ICs) offering advanced capabilities in a more compact package than previous solutions by Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM). The CQ36 series of digital output coreless current sensor ICs is designed to meet the needs of the growing robotics market. This series features a built-in Delta-Sigma (ΔΣ) modulator, enabling the IC to replace traditional shunt resistors and isolated analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) in a single package. AKM will exhibit the new line at PCIM Europe 2024, June 11-13, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre, in booth Hall 7-502. We are thrilled to share our latest technological achievement with innovative electrolyte, the proof of concept (POC) of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) using its proprietary high ionic conductive electrolyte. This technological breakthrough allows for increased power output by LIBs, even at low-temperature, and improved durability at high temperatures. Furthermore, this technology can contribute to lower cost and smaller size of battery packs, further raising the energy density. With the rapidly emerging market of energy storage systems worldwide, especially in the field of electric vehicles, stable battery performance and high durability at extreme temperatures is of significant importance.
