"RWTH Innovation | Industry Meetup" highlights new approaches for #CooperationWithImpact | Last week, we hosted our third "RWTH Innovation | Industry Meetup" at RWTH Aachen University, bringing together our strategic partners for this exclusive event. Representatives from Ford Motor Company, Deutsche Telekom, TotalEnergies, Aperam, and BMW Group joined us at our start-up community hotspot, the Collective Incubator in Aachen. Dr. Jörg von Appen, Managing Director at RWTH Innovation, welcomed the partners to Aachen and emphasized the importance of interactive exchanges on key future topics. This year’s focus was "Artificial Intelligence in the Energy Sector". To explore this topic in greater depth, we invited Prof. Andreas Ulbig from IAEW at RWTH Aachen University to present the research in the energy sector at RWTH and the ongoing projects. Nikolaus Wirtz from Fraunhofer FIT also provided valuable insights into their research approaches in this area and explained various aspects of digitalization as well as the use and impact of artificial intelligence in the energy sector. Moreover, Philipp Lutat, co-founder of the soon-to-be-launched start-up xiliox, pitched their idea of an innovative AI model designed to provide fast and secure operational decisions for grid control rooms. Between the talks, we had plenty of time for valuable exchanges between partners and researchers, and we are excited about the next steps in our collaboration. The #AprilBatch2024 has successfully completed our #RWTHIdeationProgram | Seven teams reached the first milestone of their #startup journey during the final pitch session and are now well prepared for the next steps. Over the past three months, the teams refined their business models, polished their pitch decks and brought their pitches to the next level together with our experienced start-up coaches. A special shout-out to FORMeat, who showed a fantastic development over the past three months and won the Fast Forward Award. RWTH students dive deep into the Industrial Metaverse and discuss its role in the future with Dr. Peter Koerte | Last Friday, we welcomed students and scientific staff of all disciplines to an interactive guest lecture on the Industrial Metaverse with Dr. Peter Körte, CTO & CSO at Siemens AG. Moderated by Prof. Frank Piller, the participants engaged in a lively discussion with Dr. Peter Körte about the future of industry and the critical role of collaboration with research institutions. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Mirjam Storim, the new Head of Siemens Research and Innovation Ecosystem (RIE) program. The visit not only offered students and researchers the opportunity to meet high-profile industry experts at eye level, but also to showcase the excellent research infrastructure at Campus Melaten. We visited the Smart Automation Lab at the Werkzeugmaschinenlabor WZL der RWTH Aachen and concluded the day with a tour of the new research facility CARL RWTH Aachen University, led by Prof. Dirk Uwe Sauer. FloodWaive will represent RWTH Aachen University at Stage Two | At yesterday's #FoundersRoundtable, six start-ups pitched their business models for a chance to represent RWTH at #StageTwo, the largest pan-European competition for the best start-ups spinning out of leading universities. The university round, or Stage One, featured an intense pitch battle between the RWTH start-ups. Each of the teams demonstrated great innovative power with disruptive solutions #ForOurBeyond. In the end, our expert jury announced Floodwaive as the winner of the university round at #RWTH.⁣⁣ ⁣Congrats to Floodwaive on making it to the finals in Berlin on 30-31 October 2024! We can't wait to see you take over the international stage.
