You will carry out theoretical and algorithmic work but also participate in - and later lead - international experimental collaborations at the European XFEL in Hamburg and other facilities worldwide. Suitable candidates will have a degree in a relevant subject plus a PhD in topics related to physics, chemistry or structural biology. AWARD NEWS We have some amazing news to start the week 😀 : Our founding director and head of the Condensed Matter Dynamics Department, Prof. Andrea Cavalleri, will receive the 2024 EPS Europhysics Prize from the European Physical Society! In awarding the honour, the EPS cites his "pioneering studies of photo-induced emergent phases of quantum materials: from enhanced superconductivity to the control of materials topology”. The EPS Europhysics Prize is one of the most prestigious European awards in the field of condensed matter physics. It will be presented to Prof. Cavalleri during the General Conference of the EPS Condensed Matter Division later this year. FELLOWSHIP NEWS: 😀 👇 Our colleague Sam Holt, postdoc in the Scientific Support Unit Computational Science 👩💻 👨💻 led by Hans Fangohr, has been awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Fellowship from the European Union ! The funding will allow him to explore novel magnetic structures with the aid of advanced software and machine learning techniques. Sam studied physics and completed his PhD at the University of Warwick in the UK. For his PhD, he worked on the UK Skyrmion Project and then began to work on the simulation of skyrmions at the University of Southampton with Hans Fangohr. Sam came to the MPSD in 2022 and now also works on the European MaMMoS Project – an ambitious open source-software platform for the simulation and development of more environmentally friendly magnetic materials.
