Can #CitizenScience help to strengthen trust in science? This is what scientists from #TUBraunschweig want to find out in the 🤝 joint project “Trust in Citizen Science (TiCS)” together with researchers from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. The project is being funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung with around 900,000 euros. 👥 🔍 “Citizen science is really shaking up the standard procedure of research,” says Dr. Friederike Hendriks from the Junior Research Group fourC at TU Braunschweig and head of the new project. “Research is no longer just produced in an ivory tower and then communicated to a general public. In citizen science, citizens are actively involved in shaping research. This has great potential for building trust in science, in the projects and beyond." 🤝 The team of the joint project is interdisciplinary, and some project modules will be worked on jointly by scientists from the three locations. In addition to Dr. Friederike Hendriks and Prof. Monika Taddicken (Psychology and Communication Science) at TU Braunschweig, Prof. Mario Gollwitzer and Dr. Marlene Altenmüller (Psychology) are responsible for the sub-project at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Dr Susanne Hecker and Silke Voigt-Heucke (Citizen Science Practice Research) from the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin are furthermore involved. ❓ How to become a Körber Prizewinner? The Körber European Science Prize is awarded annually, alternating between the fields of Life Sciences and Physical Sciences. Renowned scientists from the respective disciplines from all over Europe form two international Search Committees. Together with the Trustee Committee they constitute the decision-making bodies of the Körber Prize. The Trustee Committee is composed of ten scientists working in different scientific disciplines in Europe. The committee is chaired by the current President of the Max Planck Society-Planck-Society, Patrick Cramer. ❓ How does the selection process work? 📜 First, the Search Committee and the eligible European research institutions prepare a longlist of nominees. On this basis, the Search Committee compiles a short list. 🏅Second, the shortlisted candidates are then invited to submit a research proposal, which is reviewed by external experts. Based on both the proposals and the reviews, the Search Committee again makes recommendations. Ultimately, the Trustee Committee makes the final decision. #science #research #europeanscience #sciencefunding #koerberprize #koerberstiftung #gesellschaftbessermachen

Honoured to become the new chair of the NWO (Dutch Research Council) Permanent Committee for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/ev6UMkvk About the PC-GWI: From telescopes and MRI scanners to large-scale digitized collections and biobanks, science and research cannot do without the right scientific infrastructure. Facilities contribute to solving major scientific issues and to strengthening the international position of the Netherlands as a country of knowledge. That is why it is important not to make investments ad hoc, but to develop a long-term strategy. This was the reason why the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science established the Permanent Committee on Large-scale Scientific Infrastructure (PC-GWI) in 2015. Since then, the committee has twice published a National Roadmap GWI setting priorities for investment in those large-scale research facilities and has funded 26 ten year projects that contribute to the realization of a sustainable ecosystem of large-scale scientific infrastructures. #researchfacilities #infrastructure #research #roadmap

Vom Wissen zum Handeln: Führen mit Weitblick | Präsident der Exzellenzuniversität Hamburg | Leadership & Higher Education | International Collaboration & Innovation
This week was all about "PIER"! 🌟 What is behind PIER and how does it make Hamburg even more attractive and visible as a metropolis of science and innovation? 🔹 PIER PLUS steering committee The PIER PLUS Steering Council met at Universität Hamburg on Monday. PIER PLUS promotes and strengthens cooperation and networking between all state universities in Hamburg and non-university research institutes in the Hanseatic city. The cooperation of the partners in PIER PLUS is coordinated in six different profiles: Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld, Health and Infection, Climate and Coast, Conflict and Coordination, Climate-friendly Mobility, New Materials. 🔹 60 years of cooperation between UHH & DESY Universität Hamburg and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY have been working closely together for over 60 years. In 2011, the two intensified their cooperation and agreed on a strategic partnership: PIER - Partnership of Universität Hamburg and DESY. PIER stands for "Partnership for Innovation, Education and Research". PIER helps to promote young scientists, initiate joint research projects and simplify academic appointment procedures. 🔹 PIER DAY 2023 The "PIER DAY 2023" took place on Wednesday at Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld. Among other things, it focused on PETRA IV, the planned even stronger research collaboration between DESY and UHH as part of the planned excellence cluster projects (Excellence Strategy) and future infrastructure development. Our vision for PIER: ➡️ We want to expand the partnership even further over the next five years and find new innovative ways and formats of collaboration. ➡️ Together we will develop the Bahrenfeld research campus into a unique place of research with international appeal. ➡️ The possible realization of PETRA IV would have a very positive impact on the future research activities of UHH, UKE and DESY. 💡 PIER and PIER PLUS - cooperation and visibility: For me, PIER and PIER PLUS are two of Hamburg's flagships in the field of science and cooperation. Together, we make Hamburg visible worldwide as a metropolis of science.

Expert opérationnel nouvelles technologies d'assistance physique et innovation Direction Sécurité Voyageurs SNCF / Operational expert for new physical assistance technologies and innovation
I took part in the 57th SELF congress, during the symposium on exoskeletons with the theme: "How does the integration of new physical assistance technologies such as exoskeletons fit into a socio-organisational system that respects people? This symposium was organised by Bernard Boulle with Robert trott, Stéphanie Damian-Therain and me. As part of my PhD, I presented my own (W)-H C-K innovative Human centred Method , placing Human at the centre of the design process for a new exoskeleton-type physical assistance technology. Designing an exoskeleton is not as simple as it seems. There are many solutions on the market, and most of them are user-centred. The originality of my approach is to propose a Human Centred Design by considering the human as such and not as a user. This raises a host of methodological questions, in particular : - how do we integrate knowledge of use and therefore of future use and likely future activity? - How can C-K theory be used to propose characterisations in the field of the known and the unknown? - What are the questions that enable this or that concept, but also the questions that this concept poses? - What are the impacts on Human and then on the components of the work situation? - What are the feared events and what measures can be proposed? - ... 🌟 Curious about the projects ICES currently supports? Interested in the latest research plans at Europa-Universität Flensburg? In this section, we keep you updated on our members' #research and invite you to delve deeper into the world of European research. Whether you're an affiliated researcher or simply passionate about European Studies, here's something for everyone! This week, we're highlighting 'Sensing ‘race’, whiteness and the nation: sonic and olfactory experiments through text and spaces of Berlin'. Led by Prof. Christine Barwick-Gross and Dr. Christy's Kulz, this project spans one year and five months and is funded by VolkswagenStiftung. 🔍 👉 "This project will open new research frontiers in cultural studies by exploring how 'race' is produced through the sonic, olfactory and spatial by mobilising a novel methodological approach. Space and the senses are seldom explicitly employed to understand how processes of racialisation and the concomitant struggle to belong operates; omitting these affective dimensions of boundary drawing limits how we can theorise and understand these phenomena. This exploratory project interdisciplinary combines geographical, urban, postcolonial and migration studies and methods to a.) spatialise key texts in the German critical 'race' and whiteness studies canon using interactive graphic maps that span local, national and international scales; and b.) experiment with sensory participatory walking methodologies in Berlin's Wedding district to highlight the role of the spatial, sonic and olfactory in 'race'-making processes. This will reveal innovative ways to approach and theorise racialisation, whiteness and multiculture in Germany". To learn more about this and other exciting projects at ICES, visit: https://lnkd.in/de6MnB88 We hope our updates have sparked your curiosity and enriched your research journey. Switzerland needs more vehicles for coordinating and funding targeted research. Funding for focussed, yet collective efforts, that aim to solve the key challenges we face as a society is missing. Of course, open-ended, researcher-driven discovery research remains the core of swiss innovation, generously supported by the SNF: this must continue! But means to fund problem-solving teams don’t exist, outside Innosuisse and industry. The Swiss science council suggests that we try a “pilot” ARPA-like program to complement and extend the invaluable efforts of Innosuisse!
State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI; Wellcome Leap; ARPA-E; SNSF Swiss National Science Foundation; Innosuisse; Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE; Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences; HES-SO Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale
