Application- and hardware-specific quantum algorithms for industrial quantum advantage

Info

Kipu Quantum is a German quantum computing startup based in Karlsruhe and Berlin. We meet customer needs by tackling real-world problems for a variety of business domains. What makes Kipu unique is our focus on application- and hardware-specific quantum algorithms that are packaged into software products. Kipu operates at the nexus of customer use cases, hardware platforms, and the software layer - because quantum computers are still more than 10 years away from solving meaningful problems with standard approaches. We intend to drastically reduce the time to useful quantum computing - our solutions enable customers to derive value from quantum computing years ahead of other approaches, i.e. not just in the distant future.

GERMANY NEEDS QUANTUM ADVANTAGE: Secretary of State Dr. Franziska Brantner Visits Kipu Quantum We were honored to welcome Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, to Kipu Quantum. Our discussion focused on the economic policies needed to advance #quantumcomputing in Germany. Our CEO, Daniel Volz, and Chief Visionary Officer, Enrique Solano, alongside our team members Benedict Wenzel, David Niehaus, and Michael Falkenthal, Sara Schöne, Joanna Folberth, highlighted the importance of quantum computing for the economy and discussed why the smooth integration of quantum solutions is still years away. "Our algorithms allow for an up to 1500-fold reduction in the number of required qubits, thus accelerating the realization of some industrial applications on quantum computers by up to ten years," said Enrique Solano. Dr. Franziska Brantner emphasized the importance of concrete developments in quantum computing for the future competitiveness of Germany and Europe: "Quantum computing is not only a technological revolution but also an enormous opportunity for our industry. I am very pleased that companies from our region, such as Kipu Quantum, are presenting concrete ideas and solutions to make quantum computing applications usable." At Kipu Quantum, we believe that current funding mechanisms need to be more focused to achieve a "ChatGPT momentum" in the field of quantum technology. "Germany needs a bold national strategy coordinated at both the state and federal levels providing flexible funding. Given geostrategic risks, it is crucial to strengthen quantum-native startups headquartered in Germany," said Daniel Volz. State Secretary Dr. Franziska Brantner noted with great interest Kipu Quantum’s strategic acquisition of PlanQK. The German platform for quantum applications is the first open, community-based solution that enables smooth collaboration between researchers, quantum application developers, hardware providers and industrial end-users. "We must seize the opportunities for Germany and Europe in the field of quantum computing. Cooperation between science and industry is central to this," said Dr. Franziska Brantner. Pharma, MedTech and LifeScience at Quantum Synergies in Basel! Our Kipu Quantum team had the pleasure of attending the Quantum Synergies event, hosted by our friends from uptownBasel, QAI Ventures, QuantumBasel, and Roche. It was fantastic to connect with key players in the #lifescience industry, including Merck Gruppe , Novartis, Boehringer Ingelheim and Roche, and to catch up on their latest developments and research in quantum and AI. The insightful talks by Michael Streif and Thomas Ehmer emphasized the need for novel algorithms to push quantum computing towards practical applications, reducing time-to-solution and achieving better results. This is precisely what we at Kipu are focusing on, and we look forward to exploring new use cases with our compression techniques. Kudos to QuantumBasel and QAIventures for creating such a dynamic quantum ecosystem. Your dedication to accelerating global quantum technologies is truly impressive. Proud to be part of this ecosystem! Lastly, we keep our fingers crossed for the successful establishment of IonQ quantum systems at uptownBasel soon. We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our Development Team, Valentin Kasper, who joins us as a Quantum Algorithm Engineer! 🧑🔬✨ Valentin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in quantum computing, with a strong background in theoretical design of artificial systems for quantum computing, numerical simulation of quantum many-body systems and quantum simulations! His expertise will be instrumental in driving forward our mission to revolutionize the future of computing through quantum technology. He supports our team from beautiful Spain, adding a rich international perspective to our work! Valentin Kasper’s academic journey began at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and continued at the University of Heidelberg, where he earned his Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Juergen Berges. He was a post-doctoral researcher at Harvard University, collaborating with Eugene Demler in the condensed matter theory group. Following his time in the US, he ventured to Spain, joining the ICFO in Barcelona, working alongside Maciej Lewenstein. There, he started as a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie fellow and later assumed the role of a La Caixa Junior Group leader. His work spans quantum optics, quantum many-body physics, and quantum computation. Excited about startups and thrilled about using quantum physics to solve the most challenging problems, he joined the Kipu Spaceship in April. When he is not thinking about quantum physics - which never happens - he loves to hike, run, and climb. And if he cannot be outside, he loves to read a book with a cup of hot chocolate – yummy! We are confident that Valentin’s contributions will significantly advance our capabilities and help us achieve our ambitious goals. Please join us in welcoming him to our team! 🎉 Sounds amazing?
