    Balancing Quantum Hype and Reality I get it. Hype can be a driver, and why should I, at a startup working on quantum computing topics, complain about it? But too much hype can lead to false claims and attention to resolving pseudo-problems that seem important but actually don’t address the underlying issues necessary for progress. Parts of my job at Quantagonia involve managing the "quantum expectations" of customers. Sometimes, even those with a technical background expect that current executable quantum algorithms in optimization offer some form of quantum advantage. At Quantagonia, we aim to leverage both quantum and classical computers for optimization problems in operations research. We routinely compare what is possible with current classical algorithms. The truth is, we are simply not there yet in achieving a pure quantum advantage in optimization. This doesn’t mean we shouldn't start now: we can’t build quantum computers without understanding what we specifically gain and how to integrate them to maximize their potential. However, maintaining realistic, evidence-based expectations and being open to constructive criticism about what needs improvement is very important. Because communicating this is crucial, I wrote a short blog post, "A Current Quantum of a Reality Check for Optimization," where you can also learn why we at Quantagonia are invested in quantum computing, even though we currently lack practical quantum advantage for optimization problems on available devices (blog link in the comments). #QuantumComputing #Optimization #OperationsResearch #Technology #Innovation

Optimization) is still lacking feasibility for small and mid-sized companies due to high entry barriers, as underlined by my recent poll (see results in brackets below). Lowering these entry barriers could significantly improve the widespread adoption of Decision Intelligence - “the best hidden secret”. While I am sure that you have heard enough of AI’s benefits across all media channels… …it could truly be a game changer for democratizing Decision Intelligence.     🔍 Optimization meets LLMs: Optimization for the 99% 🔍 🌐 Reflecting on my 25-year journey in the realm of optimization, I've witnessed firsthand the evolution of this field. My experience spans a decade at ILOG (now an IBM company), to working with #CPLEX, and playing a pivotal role in establishing Gurobi Optimization in Europe and now tackling optimization challenges that people *actually* care for with Quantagonia. I've seen how optimization tasks historically required intensive collaboration between business analysts and domain experts. This process involved translating complex business problems into sophisticated mathematical models, a skill reserved for those with deep expertise in Operations Research. 🔄 Changes in planning processes meant laborious modifications to these models, a journey through the entire deployment process. 🗣️ Users often have a keen eye for detailing what a plan lacks or predicting potential changes. This valuable input allows for the precise refinement of optimization models, ensuring they stay aligned with dynamic real-world demands. 📝 Entering Quantagonia: Embracing the intuitive power of Large Language Models (#LLMs) like #ChatGPT, Mistral AI, #LLaMA2 , and others, we open a gateway for users to effortlessly articulate their optimization and planning tasks.
