Understanding target biology and leveraging human datasets in early research is extremely important but also very challenging. Therefore, I am truly excited about the partnership between Novo Nordisk and Valo Health, Inc. announced yesterday. With this collaboration we aim to leverage the capabilities of Valo’s Opal Computational Platform™, to potentially speed up discovery and development of new drugs, especially within novel treatments for cardiometabolic diseases using large-scale Human data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Valo’s capabilities include access to large real-world patient datasets, AI-enabled small molecule discovery and a human tissue modelling platform. Providing additional context for Insilico's recent paper in Nature Biotechnology, Insilico researchers present a "Behind the Paper" in Springer Nature Group that highlights the key findings, their context in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis research, and how AI-led drug discovery offers hope to patients battling IPF and other unmet clinical needs. ❔ What's inside? ◾ Early advances in generative adversarial networks (GANs) that led to this moment, including our group’s influential development of the generative tensorial reinforcement learning model (GENTRL) for de novo small-molecule design. ◾ How we used our AI target identification engine PandaOmics to discover the TNIK association with IPF and validated it. ◾ How we designed a drug -- INS018_055 -- that could safely, specifically, and efficiently inhibit TNIK function using our generative AI engine Chemistry42 and brought it all the way to Phase II trials. ◾ How our results set a precedent for the potential of this technology in accelerating drug discovery in many other contexts. ICFO and VITALA Technologies awarded with more than 700K€ within the frame of a “Proyecto en colaboración público-privada 2022” The new project, called “SEE-13-MRI – Scope and Efficiency Extended 13C Magnetic Resonance Imaging", is funded as part of the “Proyecto de Colaboración Público-Privada 2022” by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades and Agencia Estatal de Investigación. The project will provide a two-fold approach to widen what clinicians and researchers are able to “see” using 13C MRI: VITALA will work on new routes to produce hyperpolarized tracer metabolites with long lifetimes, while ICFO will focus on techniques to continuously and non-destructively monitor their polarization using quantum sensors. Combining these technologies seek to widen access to early detection of disease and break barriers towards future commercial exploitation of HP-13C imaging in preclinical and clinical stages of drug discovery. The “Proyecto de Colaboración Público-Privada” program is part of the Spanish Research, Development and innovation program that is oriented to the challenges facing society. We celebrate this collaboration and hope to create solid results that create high value for the hyperpolarized field and drug testing community! It's been about one year since the groundbreaking publication by the teams of Prof Bart Deplancke from EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) and Prof Julia Vorholt from ETH Zürich! They developed Live-Seq, a method that retrieves the full transcriptome of individual cells from cytoplasmic biopsies, all while keeping them alive! Live-Seq provides key insights into cellular dynamics of selected cells, providing #singlecell #research with novel tools to uncover the intricate decision-making mechanisms of cells. 🔗 Our collaborative efforts have led to the development of a new solution for the FluidFM OMNIUM platform, streamlining the collection of cytoplasmic biopsies. In new research published this week in PNAS, in collaboration with Prof. Todd Yeates and colleagues at UCLA, scientists from Gandeeva Therapeutics report a novel approach for determining structures of small proteins that are bound to inhibitors, such as KRAS, using cryo-EM technology.
