Today, 15 July, is the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis. The day honours those lost to and affected by the climate crisis, and serves as an important call to action. From heatwaves, droughts or floods to coastal erosion from rising sea levels, the consequences of climate change will affect everyone. Therefore, preparing our homes, infrastructure, economy and health systems for climate change will help us save lives and protect communities. The EU is acting to cut climate-warming emissions and manage the growing risks driven by climate change by: 🔹 Stationing response crews across Europe to help with climate disasters, 🔹 Launching early-warning systems to detect extreme weather events, 🔹 Preparing and adapting our cities to the consequences of climate change,  🔹 Training more medical professionals on climate-related health issues, 🔹 And more.   Read today's announcement → https://europa.eu/!nxwp8x And follow EU Environment and Climate for regular updates on the EU's climate action. #ClimateCrisis #Climate

Gathering for a family meal. Planting seeds for a sustainable life. Bonding over the stove with loved ones. These experiences, which many often take for granted, are mere dreams for millions of people around the world experiencing acute food insecurity. These millions of people have been deprived of this basic human right by conflicts, recurring and more extreme natural hazards, and economic crises. The European Union's #FeedingHope campaign aims to give them a voice, explain the root causes of hunger across the globe, and show why humanitarian food assistance matters today more than ever before. Following a request for assistance from Albania through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Greece has sent four planes to help tackle wildfires in the Dropull municipality. “Wildfires know no borders. The EU has mobilised firefighting airplanes from Greece to support the local first responders in Albania in their fight against the wildfires. We stand ready to further support Albania if needed,” said Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič. The situation on the ground has shown signs of improvement overnight, but the EU's Emergency Response Coordination Centre continues to closely monitor the situation in case further support is needed. This is European solidarity in action. 🇦🇱🇬🇷🇪🇺🤝 Read the headline → europa.eu/!hGwJnq #EUSolidarity #EUCivilProtection #Wildfires

Do you know what 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in humanitarian aid means? Localisation means empowering local responders in affected countries. This ensures that aid is delivered swiftly and efficiently, placing affected communities at the centre of the response. In times of crisis, local responders are often the first on the scene to provide life-saving help. By prioritising local labour and locally sourced humanitarian supplies, we reinforce the local presence and infrastructure. Stronger collaboration with local actors, including the transfer of knowledge and capacity, can: ☑️Better anticipate the response to a crisis ☑️ Facilitate community-led solutions ☑️ Promote long-term recovery and development This is why the EU works to involve and empower local and national groups in its humanitarian action. Our goal is to ensure that vulnerable people in crisis receive aid that is relevant, timely, and inclusive, and that those who deliver aid are accountable to the affected populations. Together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities. #EUHumanitarianAid

Children do not start wars. They need and deserve peace. From Ukraine to Gaza, from Sudan to Haiti, children in conflict zones are deprived of essential, life-saving services. They face violence, injury, and death, recruitment or use by armed forces and groups, displacement and uprooting, interrupted education, lack of healthcare, long-lasting physical and mental trauma, and much more. To better protect children affected by conflict, the EU has significantly updated its Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) framework by adopting revised guidelines. This means stronger efforts to keep children safe and ensure their rights are respected. Learn more: https://europa.eu/!GCgnk4 © European Union, 2024.

El Niño climate patterns such as higher temperatures and dry conditions exacerbated the devastating wildfires that hit Mexico, Guatemala and Belize in the last months. The on-demand component of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service assessed and monitored the extent of these wildfires. We've put together some of the resulting maps under a story map - take a look below. → https://europa.eu/!BJV3D6
