🌟 Exciting Times at PRSE Amsterdam! 🌟 A big thank you to BASF Mechanical Recycling, and to Carlo Bouwmeester and Denis Savchenko for presenting initiatives of RESYCURE to facilitate PCR adoption on stage. Michel Weinketz, CPIM, PMP and I had productive interactions with our clients, identifying new opportunities to enhance post-consumer recycled plastics in packaging. 🙌 Special thanks to Chemetall and IrgaCycle for their valuable inputs, which helped us showcase solutions that enable brands, converters, and recyclers to tackle technical challenges and achieve high-quality packaging. 💡 We are excited with more demand for PCR from brands and converters and are working with our partner recyclers to delivery high quality PCR at better commercial conditions Additionally, we observed a notable increase in both demand and supply for PCR. It’s time to announce Solvay's Q1 2024 results! We have achieved a solid start to the year with a robust performance in the first quarter marked by strong free cash flow, resilient EBITDA and returns. Net sales were down organically from price decreases, mostly reflecting the lower energy and raw material costs, however Solvay experienced positive volume impact for the first time in seven quarters across both Basic and Performance Chemicals segments. Our proactive cost-saving initiatives yielded €19 million in savings, contributing to a solid underlying EBITDA of €265 million. Our free cash flow was strong at €123 million, demonstrating disciplined management of working capital, costs, and capex. We also successfully executed a €1.5 billion bond issuance that enhances our financial stability and strengthens our balance sheet. Looking ahead, Solvay maintains a sharp focus on cost management and cash optimization while cautiously navigating a volatile macro and geopolitical landscape. Despite economic recovery in certain segments, we remain prudent and confirm our outlook for the year. I'm proud of the dedication and resilience of the Solvay team in delivering these results. With capacity expansions in France, Italy, and China, alongside innovative product launches like our new bio-based carbon neutral for the Americas, Augeo® and new sustainable blowing agent, Alve-OneⓇ, we are well-positioned to sustain our leadership role. At the recent World Circular Economy Forum 2024 (WCEF2024), the Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic and Ireland called for a European policy package on sustainable carbon in the chemical industry. "The joint statement calls for a comprehensive European policy framework to transition from fossil to sustainable carbon feedstocks, including a sustainable carbon availability strategy. This, according to the statement, is crucial for maintaining the long-term competitiveness of the European chemical industry in a climate-neutral and circular economy, spanning from upstream commodities to end-user products." Chemical #PlasticRecycling will play a very important role in reducing plastic pollution and establishing a truly #circulareconomy in Europe and globally.
