Info

We create high quality and responsibly made jewelry to make every look outstanding & conscious – This is BRUNA 🤍 With BRUNA we have a mission - not a simple one, but ambitious and inspiring enough to make you an expert in your craft. We aim to not only make every look special but to contribute to a world where jewelry has a positive impact on our ecosystem. Feeling inspired? Become part of team BRUNA and join our mission, let’s walk this path together. We can’t wait to meet you! But let's get back to the beginning … Everything started with the chance discovery of rare Keshi pearls on the island of Tahiti. These treasures are considered a by-product in pearl farming’s search for perfection, which sparked a unique idea in our founder. Since then, we’ve strived to embrace nature’s beauty and diversity in our one-of-a-kind jewelry. With our collections, we focus on style, premium quality and longevity. Every piece is designed by our founder Helena herself and handcrafted by experts using only the highest-quality materials. Genuine pearls and natural gemstones - all unique in shape & colour, 18k gold vermeil and 925 sterling silver. We are serious about making a change. For us, style should never come at the expense of the people producing it or the planet we call our home. Not only are all our materials ethically sourced and mainly recycled, but we also support social causes and environmental efforts to protect Mother Nature. The BRUNA customers are our heroines - the same applies to our team. We don’t want to just write about us, we want to hero anyone interested in joining us. Meaning we can emphasize the opportunity and impact someone can have within BRUNA. Fine jewelry made responsibly 🌿

As we celebrate Earth Day, we're happy to share some key steps we've taken over the past year to promote environmental stewardship. From reducing our greenhouse gas emissions to championing responsible mining practices to achieving new certifications, each action underscores our commitment to making a positive impact in the jewelry industry. But the achievements below are just the beginning. Join us in celebrating Earth Day by exploring our newly published Impact Report. #EarthDay #ResponsibleJewelry 🌎 Reducing GHG Emissions We're proud to announce that we reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 33% per jewelry piece from our 2022 baseline. This milestone marks our dedication to climate action and to reducing emissions in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. 🌎 Supporting Mercury Elimination in Artisanal Mining We partnered with The Impact Facility to test solutions for eliminating mercury use in artisanal gold mining. By doing so, we're working towards a future that dignifies the work of artisanal miners and preserves the delicate balance of our ecosystems. 🌎 Obtaining New Certifications We obtained our first Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (COC) certification, which signifies that the materials used in our packaging meet the high standards of responsible forestry management. We also achieved our first Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) Code of Practices (COP) certification, ensuring responsible sourcing and production.

While in one of my latest posts I shared about the fascinating potential of space mining, the reality here on Earth presents a stark contrast, with a significant portion of today's resources stemming from the laborious work of artisanal miners, a sector too often neglected, if not misunderstood. It is for this reason that I am thrilled to share a significant milestone: BRUNA The Label new partnership with The Impact Facility, a social enterprise committed to transforming mineral wealth into community prosperity, whose work I had the chance to visit this week in Kenya. This milestone matters to BRUNA, and it matters to me, personally and professionally. For BRUNA, it reflects our ongoing commitment to learning, challenging, and championing our strategies and the industry. Personally, supporting artisanal and small-scale gold mining communities takes me one step closer to my lifelong aspiration to social justice. BRUNA’s partnership with TIF will focus on two areas specifically: first, improving environmental stewardship at artisanal mine sites through mercury reduction, and second, promoting women empowerment through sponsoring an internship for a woman engineer in Kenya. Here is why. Reducing Mercury Use: Mercury is a toxic substance commonly employed by artisanal miners to separate gold from gold-bearing ore or sediment for subsequent recovery. Mercury exposure is linked to severe health issues, including neurological and respiratory problems. Additionally, the release of mercury into the environment can contaminate waterways and impact ecosystems. Reducing mercury use is a crucial step toward sustainable gold mining. It safeguards the health of miners and preserves the environment, making artisanal mining a more responsible and viable economic activity. Supporting Women in Mining: Women make up a substantial portion of the artisanal mining workforce, with estimates ranging from 30% to 70% or higher in some regions. When it comes to professionalized mining and engineering, however, the numbers drop dramatically. It is important to recognize that women can make substantial contributions to the mining industry, bringing their skills, perspectives, and dedication to the field. Their participation is crucial because it not only enhances diversity within the industry, but it also helps address long-standing gender imbalances. Women mining engineers like Candice Jumwa, Natasha Nzingo, and Lilian kagai Mugalla are pioneering gender equality. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to learn more about artisanal mining directly from the incredible men and women who work hard every day at the mines and from the wonderful TIF team David Sturmes-Verbeek Cyrus Njonde. We at BRUNA are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Impact Facility (TIF) a social enterprise committed to transforming mineral wealth into community prosperity. This collaboration is an important step towards our commitment to challenge and champion a better jewelry industry. The jewelry industry relies heavily on raw materials, including precious metals and gemstones, that are sourced from communities in developing and emerging economies. Artisanal or small-scale gold mining, in particular, plays a significant role in the global gold supply chain and provides millions of individuals with a vital source of income. However, due to the lack of access to formal financing and fair prices, these miners often struggle to break free from the poverty cycle, which makes supporting their communities all the more critical. With a $17,500 donation, we will support a female-led mine site in Osiri Matanda, a large mining community network in West Kenya, to introduce mercury-free processing techniques. Our contribution will also sponsor an internship position for a female mining engineer graduating from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to join The Impact Facility’s team of experts and mining engineers. We've learned that by engaging with artisanal miners and supporting initiatives like TIF, we can play a vital role in improving working conditions, protecting the environment, and promoting fair trade. By investing in the well-being of those who contribute to or are impacted by the industry, we can ensure that the jewelry sector becomes a source of dignified work for all. As we dive into the New Year, we're embracing fresh possibilities and setting ambitious new goals. But before we share with you what’s coming next, let’s first look back on some of our proudest moments from 2023: Transparency & Accountability This year we took big steps towards transparency and accountability with the publication of our first Impact Report. We also unveiled a brand new Responsibility section on our website with information about our responsibility strategy, action plans, policies, and more. Certifications & Assurance We renewed our Climate Neutral Certification, demonstrating once again our commitment to measure, reduce, and compensate for our carbon footprint. But we didn’t stop there—we also invested considerable time and energy into preparing for a Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) Code of Practices Audit, which was completed in October 2023. Furthermore, we obtained our first Forest Stewardship Council® Chain of Custody certification, which guarantees that our packaging is produced with paper from FSC®-certified forests and other controlled sources. Impact & Partnerships Last but not least, 2023 was a successful year for building impactful partnerships. In addition to renewing our collaboration with our long-term partner the Jane Goodall Institute Austria, we are extremely excited to announce a new partnership with The Impact Facility, a social enterprise committed to transforming mineral wealth into community prosperity. While we’re proud of our journey so far, we know there’s still more we can do to fulfil our vision. And as we celebrate these milestones, we’re already thinking ahead to the future and are thrilled to unveil our 2030 responsibility goals. These goals will chart a course for an even greater impact in the years ahead. Learn more about our 2030 Goals: https://lnkd.in/gnyYCGjr 🤍
