The service came up OK but frequent speed tests show it never meets advertised specs.

The real issue: Comcast's policy is to charge a $100 installation fee if ANY INTERVENTION is required in the first 30 days. In my case, their equipment at the demarc failed on the 2nd day. They sent a "tech" (parts changer) who, with considerable help, diagnosed the issue. He coded the service call as "dead outlet" and I was charged $100 to replace their failed equipment.

This matter was resolved via complaints to the Better Business Bureau and the FCC, but not without considerable time and effort.

Conclusions:
1. Does not meet performance specifications
2. Comcast's T&C's are unreasonable and may lead to false charges with may require intervention of third parties to resolve
3. Mediocre ISP that cannot be trusted

Millions of customers will disagree with your assessment of Comcast

It sounds like your Comcast system is poorly maintained and has not be updated. Millions of people are satisfied with Comcast Internet. The issues tend to be pricing, data caps, and related more to TV than the internet. They should not charge you if there is issues with the outside cable lines or equipment that they provide.

The home and neighborhood are 6-7 years old -- mostly newish plant. You are absolutely correct re the issues you mention. Just add to that "unreasonable terms of service." I agree with "should" but that's not the way this company works. Ultimately I prevailed but it took a lot of work.

One becomes a customer of Comcast at his own risk. Sorry am not a shill for Comcast and run the risk of offending "millions."
